Oh, where to start?

I'm an avid reader with lots of other interests that both drive my interest in and are driven by books. My biggest passion (right now and aside from my family) is triathlon. I started participating in them three years ago, and this year I just finished my first half Ironman (70.3 miles of... more »

Hi, Anita. I wonder if it's worth starting a new review thread for Subdue the Shelf continuations as well. There are over 600 posts (not including a good number of "shelf updated" notes I just added!). What do you think? Thanks!

Why I feel so honored to be acknowledged as part of the Union! LOL! Thanks for the info-I am doing some research, taking photos of price tags at the grocery store and the like and seeing if prime might be a good fit for us for some of our daily needs. I will also hop back on Amazon and refresh my memory as to what they offer.

I can't wait to find the time to get to it then! There are definitely books that don't translate well into cinema. I'm still in Montana until May, at which time I will relocate to Massachusetts. By the way, I will be working in Bozeman Monday-Friday the whole month of February. It would be fun to finally meet if you have time. Keep me posted! Also, it's been a really dry winter in the lower elevations so far. I was in Bozeman all week and there was no snow on the ground. I expect that will change very soon as winter weather is in our forecast across the state.

Hi Anita, I just read and loved your review for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It has been smoldering on my TBR stack for ages and now reading your thoughts added some propane to the fire. Even if I don't love it, I feel obligated to read it as it has such historical significance and I would also like to read it before seeing the film. Have you seen the movie? If so, how was it? If not, will you eventually see it?

Hey, I wanted to know how many participation points I've got in the PBT group. Could you help me out?

Thank you. I've been busy posting reviews in the month's tags discussion but never thought to review other books in the 'not tagged' discussion. I just add the reviews to my bunny hop if they are relevant or don't write a review in PBT at all. In future I'll start reviewing there too… Thank you for explaining, and don't worry about not getting back to me- it was a wonder rather than a burning question!

Hi, I wanted to let you know that I finally read and reviewed Wolf Hall. As I didn't finish in time for the women writers tag, I posted it in December's review thread. Wolf Hall is a tome but I enjoyed it tremendously.

Hi, I was just wondering how I work out whether I've earned any participation points in PBT-I looked on the FAQs but couldn't really work it out. Could you enlighten me at all? Thanks!

I did read Truman - earlier this year, in fact - and I really enjoyed it. I am a McCullough fan in general. I'm glad your reading of Washington is picking up, I will be interested to hear how you feel at the end. I always find the necessary descriptions of youth and growing up a bit boring in biographies. I always feel like we are reading because we are intrigued with their adult life, but in hindsight their youth can provide some context...oftentimes still boring though...

Honestly, Team of Rivals took me a bit to get into. It is really about Lincoln and the three other men who ran for the Republican nomination in 1860. I had trouble keeping them all separate at first and there was a lot of background on each of their lives, but Lincoln JUST got elected President (though his Presidency has yet to start) and so I am finding it more interesting. I am actually really captivated by the Republican and Democratic platforms in 1860 which are the opposite of what they are now. But, I am now a nerdy Hill worker and find these things interesting.

How is your reading of Washington coming? I am currently reading Team of Rivals about Lincoln and am really enjoying it! I am turned into a bit of a history-lover the longer I live in DC - I think the city is having an effect on me. :)

I want to read about several of the Presidents, including Washington, so if you end up liking this one then perhaps it will be my choice to read about him!

Anita, I have a question and maybe you can help. I remember reading a post about reviewing the movie version of the book, comparing the similarities and differences between the two. But I cannot find that post anywhere. Can you point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,
    Diane
