Although this is a fine novel, with a pretty well-crafted storyline, Neal Stephenson is a little indulgent here. It takes him over nine hundred pages to tell a story that could have been covered just as effectively--if not more so--in 500, and that's just a bit much to deal with.

Although I loved Snow Crash, and have suggested many people read it, I cannot say the same for this book.

Some time ago, while reading this book to my daughter, it struck me just how much I'd loved this story. It walks the fine line between fantasy and reality, tells a fantastic story, and does alll of this without insulting the intelligence of adults or children alike.

It's hard to know the impact this novel had on society, but I can certainly say that it had a huge impact on my life. This is truly Heinlein's masterpiece.

This is an exceptionally well-crafted story that neatly skirts the line between fantasy and reality. I really enjoyed some of the implied tribute to Brahm Stoker's Dracula (much of the story being told in letters and journals).
