I write the book-review column "The Book Trolley" for the Harry Potter fan site MuggleNet-dot-com. I am also a musician, a struggling writer, and an ordained minister. I don't watch TV, but I make up for it in couch-potatitude by blogging, listening to music, and reading lots of books!

    Hi Robbie,
Thanks for the tip. Despite the icon I use I don't make a hard & fast list of what order I'm going to read the books. The shelfari list is simply a way for me to keep track of books I'm curious about, or have heard good things about or further books in a series. Often when I go to a library I end up choosing another book that "leaps" in front of me!
It's weird that you sent this message when you did. I had been at one of the libraries I frequent that am and stopped in front of this book and considered picking it up. For some reason I moved on...now I regret it. Consider it moved to the front of my "line"!
...by the way I just went to a teacher workshop and got an iTouch as part of the deal. I've read a few obscure french books on it and although I'm not crazy about the screen etc my wife loves the fact that when I read in bed she can't hear the "crinkly" plastic cover as I flip pages! No too bright book light too!
My local library just started a capital campaign (for 1.2 million) to expand due to lack of space (It's a gorgeous historic old building but no elevator etc.) When I dared to broach the concept of spending money on nooks, kindles, iPads or some other option and storing books digitally I was SHUT DOWN big time! It's a good thing that they know I'm an avid reader/book lover or I'd have been out on my can! They had mentioned buying latops for use in the new building instead of computer desk/stations but I guess that's as digital as they can handle at the moment! While I can relate to the love of the feel etc of a book and believe there's a way to go before technolgy makes the leap to ebooks I was stunned with the fervor. Any thoughts on this direction? I see that you're a computer user/blogger etc. Have you tried e-books/readers?

Yeah, there's some truth to the "not as good as it continues" scuttlebutt. Still, Speaker for the Dead (sequel to Ender) is amazing, and some of Card's standalone works are great (Songmaster, Hart's Hope, The Worthing Chronicles, Pastwatch) is downright amazing. ;o) But it must be admitted that I HATED Xenocide (Ender part 3), and have been ho-hum on his Shadow series.

First of all, I like your shelf! You read a lot of the same stuff I do. I thought I'd invite you (if you don't mind) to check out my blog: http://whoisbillyjones.com/mylittlethoughts/blog1.php ... you might get a kick out of it (it's mostly silly rambling). Good reading!

PS I see you've got some James Dashner stuff up. I know James Dashner; he's a TOTALLY awesome guy. I'm reading his 13th Reality series right now. He actually reviewed a book I wrote, too, called Billy: Messenger of Powers, and said he loved it (he even gave me a "cover blurb" it's been published with). Glad you like Maze Runner; I just always like to see it when cool people are getting attention for great work! Okay, I'll stop rambling. ;o)

    PPS I lied...only THREE STARS for Ender's game??? ;o)

Oh wow, The Whim of the Dragon is out of print? Even the new Firebird editions? Man, that makes me sad, and glad that I was able to grab myself a precious copy. I couldn't agree with your reviews of the Secret Country trilogy more, and like you, I've never entirely forgotten the power of playing 'pretend' as a kid.
