One thing I've wondered about Ender's Game is, if the ansible makes communication instantaneous regardless of distance, then why did the Earth fleet have to be manned at all? The captains and pilots could've stayed here, even right next door to Ender, and then it really would have been just a game, with no human casualties. I've posted that in a couple of places and it seems an unassailable, fatal flaw. We all still love Ender of course, just doesn't add up. PS, have I mentioned Greg Egan? Best hard sf out there.

When I was younger, Niven was definitely my favourite author (Ringworld, World of Known Space, Mote, Footfall). But recently, I have not enjoyed his latest offerings nearly as much (Destiny's Road, Legacy of Heorot, Escape from Hell). I thought the two books with Lerner were okay (but Ringworld they were not). Anyway it seems that we have similiar tastes. You should try Saga of Seven Suns and Peter Hamilton's latest offerings - they are great!
