I love to read a variety of genres, but my favorites are fantasy, thrillers/suspense, literary fiction, historical fiction and science fiction. Dracula: Hearts of Stone

Dracula is a good guy in this adventure of romance, wizards and fangs; lots of interesting characters and humor, including the author Piers Anthony. A 12-year-old wizard named Jenny is trying hard to figure it all out. A very special Siamese cat named Moon Diamond and his friend Zacharia. A vampire dog named Tessy. Alexander is a handsome red sheriff that serves with honor. Wei and Bao are Chinese sheriffs with style and a passion for the law.
There’s an extraordinary female sheriff that’s being pursued by a shy vampire, but she does find him interesting. I find that a book is always better when the work is interspersed with humor.

“I can’t wait to read more.” “If you like Dracula this is a must read.” “I found myself HEARING the characters in this story.” “One of those rare occasions when you feel you did not go wrong with an indie.” “I can’t wait to get the next in the series.”

I couldn't figure out how to add him as a friend here on Shelfari. I'm going to try him on Goodreads instead. Thanks!

    Hi:
I have published three ebooks on Amazon Kindle, Smashwords, B&N, etc., and would be delighted if you would add one or more of these books to your TBR list. If you could also write a review, that would be super.

The titles and links for the books are as follows:
The Ghost Of A Flea - Murder and romance in the Big Apple
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003WQBD96
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003WQBD96
    https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/20838
Quarantine – A sci-fi thriller set in East Africa with a bizarre ending

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003ZSHNUO
    https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/21720
The Watcher – An occult horror thriller set in New England with a supernatural twist

Welcome! I thought there might be titles that you would be interested in. I think it was a promotion for Martin Luther's Birthday or something.

Hi, sorry for the delay in answering! Yes, I just got these two books cheap through one of the Goodwill stores selling books on Amazon. Real thick books, too! I've never read Vinge's stuff before so this will be a new thing. I finished Happy Hour at Casa Dracula -- silly but fun fluff. I'm working on The Forever War by Joe Haldeman, borrowed from the library.

Thanks. Next year I do intend to buy and read more books. I keep getting into the buy habit so I have to break that and go to the library more often. I'm a quarter through The Windup Girl and just like The City & The City, I don't get how this won a Hugo. It's one of those books that throws you in the middle and expects you to figure out the society. Sometimes this works but not so much this time. Great descriptions of scenes and attitudes, but it's hard to care for any of the characters. We'll see....

For the last four hours I've been plugging through Tattoo and the actual crime investigation and someone taking shots at Blomkvist is really making for a good story. It's moving along faster than earlier in the book and keeps me guessing as to who the murderer is and what could be his or her motivation.

WWW.Watch by Robert J. Sawyer and China Mieville's The City.

As for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I'm a couple of hundred pages into it. It's interesting how we're reading parallel stories between Blomkvist and the girl and how they're getting closer to meeting. I don't have a lot of sympathy for either the womanizer detective nor the spiteful Salander. She may be intelligent but doesn't get that she needs the cooperation of others to survive. When she gets violated by her guardian, she has no one to turn, thanks to her systematic refusal to accept other humans in her life, even casual acquaintences. The book is maintaining my interest.

I just got the Green Mile books from Amazon yesterday and picked up two Hugo awardwinning sci fi books from the Sci Fi book club. I got plenty to read now. I'm realizing I need to get back into the library habit.

Hey, you might love the Mars books, just that the first one was too political for me. But that's just me. Kim Robinson's writing style is interesting, I'll give him that.

    The Ancient One says

    - Love naturally flows out of the present moment, which is the only moment that exists. When we are fully in the present moment instead of absorbed in our thoughts about the past or the future or thoughts about ourselves and how our life is going, life feels good, we feel happy and at peace.

When we are in the moment, we experience the excitement and adventure of not knowing what is coming next, and we also experience the joy our Being feels in being alive and existing in this amazing universe. When you come into the present moment, you come into contact with the real you, with your Being, which is in love with life and enjoying it all!

I'm sure it's just a matter of taste. I just could not get into it, yet the book still sits on my shelf at work. I finished The Lost Symbol; was not that bad. I hope to start his early stuff with The Deception Point, hoping his early stuff is better. This was written before DaVinci Code I believe. Starting Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

I see you added Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars. For some reason it was so hard to get into this book. I understand the whole colony thing and the oxygen thing and so on, but the characters were really hard to care about. I have the paperback here at work collecting dust!

I noticed that we had new members in the Cafe Libri Reading Discussion Group, so I decided to send out some late welcome messages to all the members, including people who were already members. Here's your official welcome message, friend. It's basically the same message with a couple of sentences removed. ;)

Thanks so much for joining my Cafe Libri Reading Discussion Group: http://www.shelfari.com/groups/60395/about

Let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to introduce yourself and invite your friends over. It's a relatively new group, so it would be great to get more people chatting in there!
