It was a fascinating read - opening up a new vista on a culture that I had limited exposure. You should be prepared for an intense read, not always pleasant. But definately worth it. It is unforgettable.

I liked a thousand splendid suns because its about two women, two extraordinarily strong women who shine through all their trails and travesty .
This novel is a tribute to millions of afghan women who suffered at the hands of Taliban. Hosseini, truly is a master storyteller, but this story really moves you and touches you.

If you haven't read The Kite Runner be sure to add it to your list also. Both are heartwarming and excellent reads.

I liked 'A Thousand Splendid Suns,' but I didn't think it was a good as 'The Kite Runner.' By the time you've finished the latter you have the author's style down and the plot just isn't as hard hitting.

...I also see you read 'The God of Small Things.' I just finished it last week. What did you think? I absolutely loved it. The style was superb and it had a quote-a-day calendar's worth of salt-water taffy mind candy. :)

Hey.. 'A thousand splendid suns' is a masterpiece by hosseini. after the 'kite runner' one needs a book like this one to keep the taste of the soil in the soul alive. especially when reading something by the same author.you wouldnt want to skip it if you liked the 'kite runner', though this is a little different.a little more graphic and crude and painful; but a little less sophisticated.

I recommend reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns". It's a very powerful book about the power and the beauty and the travails of women in a culture that is different from yours (and mine) but nevertheless is still an integral part of the collective culture which we women live.
