100 American boys have entered themselves into the annual Long Walk. The rule is simple; just walk on the road above the minimum speed as long as possible. Failure to comply with this rule results in death by gunshot. The last man standing obtains a cash prize and anything else he desires. The story is told from the perspective of a teenage boy, Garraty. In the beginning readers are introduced to Garraty's opponents, all teenage boys that feel that they can't lose. During the race, the number of boys diminishes, and the remaining players reflect among themselves that it is a reality that they will most likely die.
Even though the participants in the race were walking hundreds of mile, I felt the plot barely moved until the final couple chapters. Overall, it was a well enjoyed book, that left me thinking,"How far would I make it in the Long Walk?"

I remember in 3rd grade I first read this book thinking "that this was really complicated". After reading again with a more mature perspective, I see that The Westing Games was genius, that it delivered a great mystery plot to an audience of children readers.

I know this book is for younger kids, but I enjoyed how the plot gets you interesting in world history. I will continue to read the series.

  • The Hunger Games
    • Rated 4 stars

The Hunger Games is a story about the dystopian future of America (or Panem), where annually 2 teenagers (a boy and a girl) from each district are selected to participate in a gladiator type competition called the Hunger Games. Where the rules only allow one victor to get out alive. Katniss from district 12 enters the Hunger Games. Once in the game, she decides that she could save herself by creating a relationship with Peeta, the male tribute from district 12. I felt that The Hunger Games had an very interesting concept of baiting kids against each other in a fight to the death. I had picked it up thinking that this was going to be American version of Battle Royale, which I loved. The Hunger Games was less violent and toned down in comparison, but included some elements of the modern teen romance. Overall I felt, that The Hunger Games was okay, and could of been made much better.
