This is a sad and somewhat depressing story, but what interests me most is the mother/son dynamic. As with Per Petterson's books, there are several notable quotes either quoted from sources or from Per (and his translator) himself. Now that I have finished this, it really ended strangely and left me hanging.

Learned a lot about the American Indians through the readingi of this novel. I did like her other book, Stormey Weather, better -- felt more connection to the characters in that one.

This is a book about faith, but it is centered around the circus.

This is a wonderful book sharing a unique perspective on human interaction and connection with animals. Following the life of Jenny and her keeper is a fascinating tale.

Kate Morton ability to gracefully float between the present and the past, as well as represent the challenges and experiences of old age, makes this book so touching.

When I first began this book, I found the characters interesting and thought about what a different walk of life they came from. However, as the depth of each character was revealed I came to realize how much in common I really had with them. Very well written and surprising book -- I didn't want it to end when it did!
