As Kafka said:

"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us. If the book we are reading doesn't wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for? ...we need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished... more »

You've read A portrait of the artist as a young man? I think I must be dull since I couldn't follow the novel for some reasons. I mean it was like reading in a stream of consciousness because a lot of it didn't make sense.

I've tried to find faults in Eliot's quote but in truth I agree with him entirely. Have never heard of the man though...

I'm not sure what you mean by this...Don't deny a book a place in your collection simply because you may not find time to read it.

Is it because of my quote? If it is then you've misunderstood it.

it's addicting isn't? the number of books on your shelf makes you feel good about your achievement. But, it doesn't take away the fact that somehow the whole thing seems a bit ...pretentious. Great shelf by-the-way.

Ah, your shelves are filling up! From your philosophical bent of mind, I think you will enjoy 'God's Debris' by Scott Adams (yes, the Dilbert guy. But it reads nothing like Dilbert). Have the e-book. Will forward you.
