Dave

Welcome to my life and my shelf. My parents encouraged my brother and I to be veracious readers, to develop a thirst for knowledge, and to enjoy the works of others - well, several years later I am fulfilling the love and thirst for books and knowledge.

By day, I am a Workplace and Furniture Planner - by night, I am a volunteer freak -... more »

Hi, Dave. I’m the author of The Sandal Maker, a new novel about the public ministry of Jesus from a unique point of view. A story that will take you on a fascinating journey in first century Galilee. I’m including here the publisher's notes from Amazon.com. Let me know what you think. The honor would be mine.

    Book Description
Caleb, an elderly Jew, leaves the safety of his home in Cana on a mission to find a man he believes is in Jerusalem. Miriam, Caleb’s only remaining child, accompanies him disguised as a boy. In the desolation of the war struck Galilean countryside, father and daughter risk their lives to journey south on the Jordan River trail. As they walk, Caleb intrigues Miriam with a captivating story of his youth that will change her future destiny. A story of a time forty years prior when he became a sandal maker in order to observe a man some called the Miracle Worker. Caleb secretly kept notes of the events he saw and heard as he followed the crowds. With his objective, skeptical point of view, he reveals the fascinating ministry of the one he called the “Master.” Heart pounding perils and the threat of death endanger the two travelers, but nothing could foretell the fate awaiting them in Jerusalem!

    From the Publisher
    A. Michaelson's new novel, The Sandal Maker, takes the reader on a fascinating journey back to the year 70 A.D. in worn torn Palestine. The author creatively weaves two stories together, one in the present, the other in the past. Heartwarming, enlightening and tragic, The Sandal Maker paints a portrait of one man's life and his involvement in how the gospel came to be.

    From Hafez, Ghazal No. 317
    Openly I admit, with much joy and such glee;
Enslaved to love, from both worlds I am free.
As a bird of Paradise, to parting I did agree
Fell in the trap of life and worldly tragedy.
    I was an angel, I resided in the heavens;
Renovation of the world - the mission given to me.
The nymphs of paradise, the cool ponds and the tree
In the hope of union, swiftly left my memory.
On the tablet of my heart, inscribed from a to z
It is all about you, I can’t see other than thee.
No soothsayer foretold of my exit or entry
O Lord, this journey, why did you for me decree?
I am but a slave of the Tavern of Love
Each moment, a new pain becomes my new remedy.
If my bleeding heart pours out of my tearful eyes
It’s just, I deserve; why to others I make my plea?
Wipe away Hafiz’s tears with your hands so he can see
Or else, this flood, brings all of us to our knee.

    From Hafez, Iranian Philosopher :

    Rose petals let us scatter
And fill the cup with red wine
    The firmaments let us shatter
And come with a new design
    If sorrow's soldiers incite
    To shed lovers' blood tonight
    With beloved I will unite
    And his foundations malign
Pour the red wine with control
    Like rose-water into the bowl
    While fragrant breeze will roll
    And sweet incense refine
    With a harp on display
We ask the players to play
While clapping we sing and say
    And dancing, our heads decline
Blow our dust O gentle breeze
And throw at the Master's knees
The Good King has the keys
While we glance at the sign
One boasts & brags with his mind
One weaves talks of idle kind
All the judgment that we find
Let the Judge weigh and define
If Eden is what you need
To the tavern let us speed
The jug of wine let us heed
    And Paradise will be thine
    Merry songs and fair speech
In Shiraz they do not teach
    Another land let us reach
    Hafiz, and then we shine

Dave, I will check out your shelf. It's fabulous! And thanks for the congrats!

I just finished reading "Can We Do That?" by Peter Shankman - about outrageous marketing ideas. It was great! Just bought The Kite Runner because I saw it on so many Shelfari lists.
