Hey, you know what? I just, just finished "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell". It was an awesome book. Epic for sure. Much better than I thought it would be, which means I highly recommend you read it. It starts slow, but continues and continues to build, kinda like Zeppelins "Stairway to Heaven". Jonathan Strange is a great character and so is the main villian of the story, this otherworld fairie that didn't have a name but was recognized by his hair. Alot of real cool magic went on, I don't want to say too much, but wow, great book. It is dense though and must be read with care. I actually took me 9 days to read it. Before "Glasshouse" , I'm gonna read two books that would be too hard to find to post on the book club site. One) "Heaven Chronicles" by Joan D. Vinge who I think is the wife of Vernor Vinge. It's two novellas in one book, each a little over 100 pages and two) "The Masks of Time" by Robert Silverberg which seems to have some cool future religion plot, and is also pretty short. I need a few shorter stories after Jonathan Strange, then I'll get to Charles Stross's "Glasshouse" which is supposed to be awesome. Ever read any Stross. I guess his most famous book is "Singularity Sky" and it's sequal "Iron Sunrise". He's a rather new writer whose first book is from like 2003. My cat Jeffy in walking near the keyboard making it hard to write, so hopefully I'll hear back from ya soon, later, Bryan.

Looks like you added some more books. You added some Stephen R Donaldson. Cool. I've read the first trilogy of Thomas Covenant a long time ago. I repurchased it about a year ago, and got the second trilogy as well. At some point, I'm gonna go through the six book series. I have too many series of books, it's hard to decide what's next. The last series I read was the Varley one on my book club site. Some other top series I need to read are 1) The Dune series 2) The C.J. Cherryh Foreigner series, and Fortress fantasy series 3) The Discworld one 4) The whole seven book Foundation series (I read the origional trilogy in high school) 5) The Ender's Game series 6) Niven's Books of Known space series 7) Hamilton's Night's Dawn series and the Pandora's Star series 8) Reynolds Revalation Space series 9) Brin's the Uplift series 10) Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan series as well as her three book fantasy series 11) Simmons Hyperion series 12) Zelazny's Amber series 13) Kim Robinsons Red, Green, and Blue Mars one 14) Sawyer's Hominids series 15) Gibson's Virtual Light trilogy 16) Heileins books with Lazarus Long 17) Blish's Cities in Flight four book series 18) Scalzi's Old Man's War series 19) Clarke and Gentry's Rama series 20) Pohl's Gateway series 21) Haldeman's Forever War series and a few others. Which one's of these have you already read? I'm still working on Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. I'm about halfway. It's a dense book. It's written like and older literature book, like with some Dostoevsky influences, so it cannot be read quickly, it's one that must be savored. It's really quite good. I'm glad I'm reading it, you should give it a try at some point. The characters are really well done. Next up on the book club site is gonna be one called "Glasshouse" by Charles Stross. I've never read any Stross, but he's supposed to be good and a smart mf. Have you started "Hunter of World's"? I just bought two books. One is a new Cherryh omnibus called "Alliance Space" which has two books in it, "Merchanter's Luck" which I've never been able to find and "40,000 in Gehenna" which I already own. My friend Luke wants the other copy, so I'm gonna mail it to him. The 40,000 book was referenced quite a few times in Cherryh's book "Cyteen" which we both read, so he's stoked that he gets to read this one. So you like zombie movies too. Cool. What are some of your favorites. I love both the origional and newer version of "Dawn of the Dead" and "28 Days Later" and even the campy "Return of the Living Dead". I really like the "Evil Dead" trilogy. It's too bad Bruce Campbell never made more than a B actor, he was great in that trilogy and I like how he cameos in all three of the Spiderman films. Ok, I'm gonna go read some more Strange, so I'll talk to you soon, Bryan.

Hey there, so I finished "Eye" by Frank Herbert. Most of the stories were pretty cool. I liked how the main character from "Whipping Star" showed up in a couple of the stories. My next short story book is gonna be "Masterpieces" edited by Orson Scott Card. It's a sci-fi compilation of stories from the 20th century from Poul Anderson to Alastair Reynolds. It should be pretty cool, but doesn't hold a candle to my two big short story books. "The Hard SF Renaissance" and "The Space Opera Renaissance". Both of those are oversized with small print and close to 1000 pages. They are whoppers of books. I'm a little intimidated by them, so I'm gonna read some shorter anthologies first. I also read another Heinlein Juvinile for s&%ts and giggles. It was "Time for the Stars" and actually quite good. Since it was written for a younger audience, I finished in a day. I'm reading "Sister Alice" by Robert Reed now and then will move on to "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell". Have you read that one? Its a big one, around 800 pages hardcover. Even though it's not too old, the hardcover was in a bargain bin and Borders for like five bucks. Can't beat that. I'm still waiting for "Diary of the Dead" to come to a theatre near me. I want to see that one bad. I support George Romero. I even own the four disc set of "Dawn of the Dead" which has three versions of the film. Just thinking about it makes me drool. When are you moving? It's got to be pretty soon. Have you ever lived in Europe before? Me no, but I did live near Montreal for seven years from ages 0 to 7, so I don't remember to terribly much. OK, "Sister Alice" is calling, so I'm gonna go read it. Later, Bryan.

Hi, so I keep on reading. I finished "The Double" like I said before, then I decided to read this older Larry Niven book called "Inferno". It was pretty short and was a modern take on Dante's Inferno. Basically, this sci-fi writter falls out a window while drinking whiskey and dies. He ends up in Hell and has to travel to the deepest regions with Benito Mussolini. I really liked it, especially the descriptions of all the types of sinners and what their punishments were. I'm now halfway through "The Gambler", the other Dostoevsky story. Have you read this one, it looks like you've read "The Double". Next, I'm gonna read one by Robert Reed called "Sister Alice". It's supposed to be one of his best. After that will be the next "club" book, and I'm gonna pick a big one that you may have read, but probably have at least heard of. I think it won the Hugo in 2005. It's called "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" by Suzanna Clarke. It's billed as an adult Harry Potter story and most people seem to love it. There are alot of shelfari members with this book on their shelf. So you're gonna try "Hunter of Worlds". Cool. I look forward to your opinion on that one. It's only around 200 pages, but alot goes on in those 200 pages. One of my cats is on the computer desk messing up my typing so I have to keep going back and retyping stuff. The other cat has somehow got underneath a comforter in the guest bedroom where the computers are. How's your boyfriend liking Resident Evil 4? Have you had a chance to watch "The King of Kong"? Since you like scary movies, did you know that George A. Romero is releasing another zombie movie. This one is called "Diary of the Dead" and it's supposed to be pretty good, better than the recent "Land of the Dead". It's only in limited release now, but in a week or so, I'm gonna try and go see it. Apparently he's also working on another zombie movie right now. Good old George. OK, message getting long again, so I'll talk to you soon, Bryan.
