An amazing piece of history, all countries should have a similar book. Besson does an excellent job of mixing primary history with secondary sources to give a ramshackle, incomplete, and engrossing look at Trinidadian history. Its not like reading a stale history textbook or an overly detailed master's thesis, it is like sitting in the middle of seventeen trunks of old historical documents and having the whole day to read and sip tea. In addition, a master historian sits by to give you some "official" history whenever things become too confused. I loved it, it is what history should be. A must read for anyone interested in coming to Trinidad.

OMG!! Greatest book ever. I love the characters of this book, Mitchell is a master. I can't decide who I like better - Scarlett, Rhett, maybe even Archie!

Adventure on the high seas... Well its actually on a river, but the river is really wild. I loved this book, it has a little bit of everything, humor, romance, and adventure. Its a good peak into the geography of Africa and covers a little bit about the Europeans who came in and colonized.

Great non-fiction book that taught me a lot about the history of South Africa and Nelson Mandela himself. His ability to walk the tight rope between salvation and disaster for his entire country was inspiring.

OMG!! One of the worst books I have ever read. The lame story telling of this author threatened to make me swear off reading for the rest of my life. I don't know how many times the characters of this story ran in to a house only to have it explode seconds later as the "scary" monsters attacked. It seriously happend about six times, almost the exact same way each time.

This new series doesn't seem to add anything to the genre of adolescent fantasy. It was fine, but not interesting enough to encourage the reading of the remainder of the series.

This is a good one! A little bit on the ultra-violent side, but who can say what the future holds if global warming continues to take our resources. I thiink I like this future a little bit better than "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy, at least we will have a fighting chance.

One thing that this book taught me about myself is that I do not like an informal or jokey narrator. I have been trying to figure out why I don't like the Pendragon series and it is becuase the narration is very informal. This was a book that had an excellent story, but also had an informal narrator. It helped me to figure out that it doesn't have anything to do with the story, but the voice of the narrator. I grew up on Stephen King and Tolkein they are serious narrators, this is what I like.
I liked the story. A slightly different take on the Holocaust. More of a small town, sympathetic, and innocent view of the whole situation.

I really liked this book, the second book in the series. It reminded me a lot of the Lord of the Rings series, because the main character is not strong, like Frodo, and has to use his wits and luck to survive.
Also, the author was quite young when he wrote it, like Paollini, so his writing connects more to young people. He has a better understanding of what they might be thinking about - proving themselves, who they are, girls, and impressing their parents.
Overall, the story kept moving and characters kept showing back up to connect different parts of the story up. This made for a very exciting book that kept you engrossed in the story.
Let me finish by saing that tiny bats that eat mosquitos are awesome and giant cannibal bats that try to destroy the sun are not awesome.

The first part of this book is a mini-biography of King's life, which is amazing because you can hear all the ghosts of his characters knocking around in his childhood. The second part is written as if he is talking to you, but getting his conversation topics out of a textbook. This creates an interesting, inspiring, and suprisingly well laid out plan to write well. I didn't have any expectations of this book when I picked it up, but was thrilled with what it contained.
I'm a new language arts teacher and I only kinda know what I'm doing, but this book gave me some great ideas and ways to accomplish them. "All hail the King!"
