Brief but great into to some of 37Signals approaches to business. After reading this - move on to their book: Getting Real.

Great reference, but frankly - and I know I might get flack for this but - kind of a snooze-fest.

Haven't read yet - but a good friend enquired about this book at a Barnes & Noble...and was asked to leave the store. ...In America...

Any book that garners that reaction deserves to be read, even for the purpose of straight up refutation...

  • The Law

This may be my favorite non-fiction work next to The Bible. Although it is brief, it covers more ground than any other piece on government, law, economics, and liberty with amazing clarity.

If I could encourage people to read one book on government, it would be Bastiat's The Law.

It is as relevant today, as it was in the 1800's, perhaps even more-so.

Ignore this book at your peril.

Getting Real is an outstanding series of essays about the rapid web start-up and development process. Whether or not you agree with every single suggestion - this book is a fine asset for anyone working in the web 2.0 space. I highly recommend this book.

In my view, Fascism has become a meaningless word today. At one time - it actual described a specific type of governmental philosophy, while today - the word has been reduced as synonymous with 'Evil' or 'Nazism.'

This book is an attempt to understand and explain what Fascism historically was as a governing philosophy.

For folks who consider themselves on the political Left that may drop the book because they consider the title inflammatory - recall that it is taken from a quote by noted progressive H. G. Wells in a speech to the British Young Liberals in 1932, when he stated, "I am asking for a Liberal Fascisti, for enlightened Nazis..."

Like I said at the beginning - whether you agree with this book or not, I think it does a good job getting at the roots of what Fascism really means as a governmental philosophy - and such a philosophy fits into the modern political spectrum.

Whatever your political stance, if you wish to get a basic understanding of a traditional conservative political philosophy - you should read this book.

    Moment of Truth in Iraq

    by Michael Yon
    • Rated 5 stars

Moment of Truth is an outstanding book. Ex-Special Forces author Micheal Yon takes on the highly controversial conflict in Iraq with a rare journalistic gem: candor. He has spent a huge amount of time embedded with American and British troops in Iraq, and his honest and frank coverage is as refreshing as it is exciting.

The best thing about this book, though, is what it isn't. It's not about bureaucratic Washington. It's not about squabbling political opinions thousands of miles from Iraq. This book is the story from the ground in Iraq - a current conflict 'Band of Brothers' if you will.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in current events, war history, and hearing what is actually going on in Iraq. The stories are gripping and hopeful. (I nearly read the entire book in one sitting, as I couldn't put it down).

Michael Yon is a self supported photo-journalist - so picking up Moment of Truth is a great deal because you get a great book, and you also get to contribute to his great war coverage. Read this book. (Or check out his writing on: michaelyon-online.com)

I don't really need to say a great deal here. I thought this was a great close to the series. I did feel like the book dragged on quite a bit towards the middle and the ending was in fact not exactly something I didn't see coming. These are minor factors though. If you are a fan of the series - this is a great finale and a good read!
