I'm 24, I have a beautiful daughter, and I love to read. Right now, I don't have a favorite genre, but I can read pretty much anything interesting enough. It's my addiction. My favorite authors at the moment are Margaret Atwood, Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, Daryl Gregory, and China Mieville.

The book could have been great, but the stilted speech was horrible. Pulling out random the's, he's, she's, et cetera, doesn't create a new language. Nor does it save time or make for a fulfilling read. It really just made everyone talk ridiculously. Great story, but romantic relationships and character interactions were a little bit too unreal. Too pleasant and neat. Doesn't seem plausible with human nature and all, but sci-fi it is, so I'd recommend it.

Actually a very interesting viewpoint. Is abandoning all censorship really the path to a sustainable future? Loved this.

Very thorough, very excellently readable biography. I felt like I read pretty much all there was to know about Bonnie and Clyde, whom I wasn't particularly interested in. Honestly, if it'd been written any other way, I'd probably still find them not worth getting to know, but this was an excellent history.

This is awful. This is the rough outline of a possible book idea, printed onto paper and touted as a novel. I didn't LOVE One Second After, but if someone is going to take the scenario of some sort of device taking out all electronic devices in America (and then throw in the LDS angle), there has to be at least a little ..story, some development. Some real interactions and details about the collapse of America rather than dull factoids. The characters were lifeless, etc etc. It really seemed to be reported as a bland historical archive, and in this particular case, that wasn't exactly an achievement. Though..this could just be a scenario like it says, a tiny little outline of a story that could be. Still wasn't good.

Aside from another round of dumbstruck getaways, over the top female bravado and lukewarm romance, this really was the best Cook book I've read so far. I'd prefer Jennifer's adventures with her mysterious Neil boyfriend, than Jack and Laurie's increasingly stale problems. Lovely imagery from India, and interesting insights regarding medical tourism.

Awful. I can't even give it kudos for a slow, fairly plausible scenario, because the author came across as pretty sloppy. This could have been done so much better. There were scenes that seemed to have no purpose, or if they did, reflected a pretty weak viewpoint. Eating a cat fetus? I'd like to hear what purpose that little nugget served, aside from some ridiculous flashback during a silo cookin'. I was curled into a fetus. Like the cat fetus. That I ate. The writing didn't add anything, and though the world may be heading in this VERY GENERAL direction, most of this storyline was too ridiculous to consider. Honestly, the jumpy-jumps? If I hadn't paid for this, I wouldn't have finished it. I'd had this recommended to me as shocking and grotesque, but it's done so cheesily, it's hard to take seriously.

Lippman flawlessly flows from character to character, obviously very skilled writing. I believed all of these personalities. Pretty great story, but no real climax or stunning conclusion. Kind of fumbled a little bit.

This book is probably too long, definitely could have been pared down quite a bit. However, all of the information was interesting, and gave me a better perspective on factory farms; a subject I knew about, but rarely had the opportunity to learn more. Imagine my surprise, when from page one, the book was situated in the town I'm currently living. Over a river in which I spend a lot of time around. It's crazy that the majority of this I'd heard snatches of, but had no real idea of just how bad things had gotten. This book is just ridiculous, it all seems so straight forward, that these farm factories aren't healthy or sustainable. Packed with information on the strenuous pushes of all the brave activists, trying to muddle through the people only interested in what the world can do for them today - the hell with the cost tomorrow.

Great style, reminiscent of Tom Perrotta, I thought. It's interesting to follow Kate as her thoughts spiral out of control, in the midst of an affair with the father of her most intriguing student. While revelling in the wicked, depraved aspects; at the same time she can see the negative effects her relationship is having with the rest of her life and her image, yet she persists. Several interesting twists, especially as her path holds similar aspects to the novel her lovers' wife recently published. Really enjoyed this, am surprised it hasn't had more attention.

  • When Worlds Collide
    • Rated 3 stars

Suspending belief for these crazy events was very easy to do, the story is well told. However, the characters came off as slightly unrealistic in their dialogue. Even taking into consideration the time period this was written, it was a little over the top. I almost expected heaving bosoms to come into play, in some of the "romantic" interludes. Not to mention Tony is super great, even though he really has no purpose in any new Garden of Eden, aside from being a statuesque, and all around swell guy. It did seem a little kooky that the countries of the world separated, rather than united, when faced with annihilation, but of course, America did come out on top. Dated, yes, but great book, overall.
