Compulsive reader, mediocre writer, editorial assistant, aspiring motorcyclist. Urbanite 'till the bitter end. Can be won over with sushi and David Lynch films. Danielewski fanatic. Woolf-obsessed. Redhead.

Entertaining, fast read, but if you want Kirino's best, read "Out."

Moments of genius eclipsed by despicable characters. Also, a difficult read if one has any feminist leanings (as in, believes women are not objects, have own thoughts, etc).

I only wish I knew French so I could read it as it was originally intended.

As much as I love Rice's beautiful writing, the plot and characterization in this novel is a little shallow. Though the message of redemption and forgiveness is beautiful and moving, the narrative tends to get a bit preachy.

Though the action can seem a bit rushed and even arbitrary at times, the excellent characterization and beautiful narrative voice more than redeem the story's minor problems. This novel, like its characters and like us, has its flaws, but even they can't dull its shine. "Dirty Little Angels" was provocative and engaging.

Some of Hamilton's more aggravating writing habits fade in this book; plot overcomes sex largely, which is a refreshing change. The novels seem to have caught up to the 21st century in possibly gratuitous but nonetheless amusing references to youtube and ebay. Sometimes parts of the dialogue are redundant background both for the characters and the reader, and the occasional comment would have made more sense as inner monologue rather than conversation. The macho pissing contests between the police and the marshals, Anita included, draw out chapters that could have been mere paragraphs. Despite this, this novel is an improvement on the last couple in the series.

Now if only we could STOP reminding the reader every three pages that Anita is female, attractive, and of course modest about it...

Can be intensely disturbing at times, but well worth reading.

Only the end saves me from hating this book.

I will forever be looking over my shoulder, walking down the street and in dreams, for fear of conceptual fish.
