    Hi Jeff,
So I've given up on "the Prague Cemetery" for the time being. I've returned to school and I've found that with the Course readings, and work I don't have the time needed to properly read this book through. I would forget what was going on and get lost every time I had to put the book down. So, I'm postponing the read until August. I only made it about 250pgs. It had a great beginning, then it slowed down a bit but apart from one section- that I felt read a bit like a history text- it was very interesting.
I'm looking forward to re-reading and finishing it later.

I have been to California, 3 times, but i have not visited Yosemite. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog, it's been neglected, i haven't updated it this year. But i'm having a great time reading and quite happy that some of the books i've been looking for are now available. I will browse your shelf in a little while.

    Hi Jeff,
I've read a few of his books now, "The Name of the Rose" is definitely my favorite so far. I find the others slow to get into and with "The Island of the Day Before" I needed a few different translation dictionaries to get through the different languages used in the book. He's not an easy or light read!
I'm about 200 pages into "The Prague Cemetery" and I'm having a hard time keeping with it. The beginning was interesting, but now its starting to sound more like a history text book than a novel. I will get back to you when I finish (at this rate it could be a while) and let you know my final thoughts. As of now I'd probably give it 3 stars

What a hard question since I love him so much! I started with Lullaby and that had me hooked on him. I guess my top three to start with would be Lullaby, Diary, or Survivor. And even though I say those three I love almost all his books equally. The only one I haven't read is Pigmy. And a more recent one that I absolutely loved was Rant. He definitely has a darker/perverse side to his stories but I find it refreshing to have characters go to those dark places within themselves.

Thank you, as a rule I don't really like war books (even "All Quiet on the Western Front" was more of a must-read), but I really enjoyed "The Things They Carried"

I have enjoyed many of Bryson's travel books and have wondered about "Short History of Nearly Everything." Thanks for your brief review, if confirmed my suspicions.

On your recommendation I got two Ishiguro novels; "Never Let Me Go" and "The remains of the Day."
I'm looking forward to reading them, thanks!

Hi Jeff! I was wondering if you saw "Hugo" in the theater? I added it to my "To Read" list based on your recommendation, but haven't gotten to it yet. I was thinking of taking the kids to see the movie, but wanted to get your opinion first! I still want to read the book, but was curious to see what you thought of the adaptation.

Hello Jeff, After perusing your Shelfari shelf we now have several more books in common. I noticed that you are a Maragaret Atwood fan as am I, but I'm wondering why you haven't read the "The Year of the Flood" the follow up to "Oryx and Crake"? I also wanted to mention to you that if you are enjoying "The Book Thief", you might want to read " I am the Messenger" also written by Markus Zusak. Just a few suggestions that I think you might like after noting which books on your shelf you marked very well or "favorite". If you haven't read anything by Richard Russo especially "Empire Falls", or Wally Lamb, "I Know This Much is True" and "The Hour I First Believed" than you must put them on your "to read" list! Wally Lamb is a magnificent storyteller! I also noticed that you had read and rated "The Grapes of Wrath" as a "Favorite", but i didn't see "East of Eden" on your shelf. "East of Eden" is hands down my favorite Steinbeck novel. Finally you must check out, "A Fine Balance", by Rohinton Mistry; "Songs in Ordinary Times", Mary McGarry Morris; "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", John Berendt; "The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver; and "The State of Wonder", Ann Patchett. I hope you will enjoy reading some of my suggestions. I have already added some of your favorites to my "plan to read" list but if you have some favorites that you would like to suggest I would love to hear them. You and I both have "Middlesex", by Jeffrey Eugenides listed as a favorite. He has recently published a new novel titled "The Marriage Plot". Have you heard or read anything about this long awaited follow up? I'm curious to know how it is being received.

Hiyas Jeff... Sorry it took so long to respond... Unfortunately I never finished Poisonwood I wasn't one of those people who loved it. Maybe it just wasn't the right time to read it.....I will have to try again another time. But I would love to hear what you think when you are finish. Hope you had a great thanksgiving!

Hi Jeff, Of course I don't mind! I've started following yours as well. A clockwork Orange is one of my all time favorite stories, I also recommend the movie if you haven't seen it. I think the brain washing scene will haunt me forever!

Molokai was a good book - not great, but good. It's been a while, but I remember that the author's passion for Hawaii was very evident and he did an excellent job of chronicling the history of the leper colony at Molokai. It was very interesting and occasionally moving. Some of the characters were very good, but he never made me care very much about the main character, Rachel. Parts of it were great, and it dragged in others. This is a pretty mixed review, I suppose! I would say it was solidly average - certainly interesting on the historical end, not as compelling from the fictional side.
