I love life...it is love, it is beautiful, it is magical, it is enchanting. I love listening to good music, reading moving literature, writing poetry, hugging trees, being a yogini, drinking tea, and being in the midst of my family and friends. I love the time right before sunrise when the sky is a perfect blue-lavender-indigo color against... more »

I really appreciate you accepting my Shelfari friendship request. If you are interested, I would like to invite you to be among the first readers to review my new motivational book "Moments of Forever: Discovering the True Power and Importance of Your Life" (a registered Shelfari title). It is a practical study in metaphysics that will help you find greater meaning in your life. Please help me launch this special book with your personal Shelfari review.

    Thank you!

    Hey Urbanite!
If you're serious about reading more, join us at Women Read 2009. We'll be tracking our reads and reviews there. Small group. Great group of women. I'm sending you two invites, one to WR and Color Online. Connect with a group and you'll have a greater incentive to show up. I set a 50 book goal last year. I read 91.
    Stoked to hear from you.

    Dear Member,

So glad you’ve joined us. Want to encourage you to check out our regular features and programs. I also want to ask you to help us reach as many teen girls as possible. Invite them to join the group and encourage them to participate.

I encourage you to check out our “What Do I Read Next: Book Loan Program”

    http://www.shelfari.com/groups/12777/discussions/9807/What-Do-I-Read-Next-Book-Loan-Program

Members who are regular participating (2 posts minimum per week) members for at least 60 days are eligible for our book loan program. We will calculate your days based on when you post an introduction in our Welcome & Introduce Yourself thread.

All fiction titles on our group shelf may be borrowed for 30 days provided the member agrees to return the book in same condition received and will return it with delivery confirmation. Media rate is acceptable.

I’m looking forward to us building an empowering, safe and nurturing environment for our young women.

    Peace,

Hello dear member of the Black Feminist/Womanist Literature group! It's J., the admin., and I'm writing to inform you of the group's new look! (And it goes beyond the change in our group picture, though it is nice, don't you agree?) :) What we're discussing now: Patricia Hill Collins' Black Feminist Thought, Toni Morrison's Sula for our July read, our little BIG Read: 7 short stories in 7 days to begin later this month, the National Black Arts Festival where Alice Walker and Pearl Cleage are featured speakers, and more!

We'll soon have a group blog up and running, will begin profiling the uberly dynamic authors within our own group, discussing women's/girls action coalitions in your city, reviving some of our good ol' threads, etc.

I challenge everyone to invite at least one friend (already a member of shelfari or otherwise) to join the Black Feminist/Womanist Literature group and to log in at least bi-weekly. (Though weekly would be wonderful!) And I pledge to do the same.

And did you know that Toni Morrison's new novel, A Mercy, is due to be released in November? Ah, you would if you'd visited our group page! (No, actually, I haven't posted this information. lol) But do stop by and fall into the purple haze that is extraordinary literature by feminists of color!

    Love, Jaya
