About "American Gods": Compared to "Coraline" and "Anansi Boys", "American Gods" is quite a bit darker in tone and content. Humorless? Well, it's definitely not as comical as his other works, but it does have its moments.

This is a very fish-out-of-water story. Shadow (the main character) is thrust into something far larger than he ever bothers to comprehend, opting to go with the flow of things rather than making a big fuss about it all. At one point, he's even asked by his employer, Mr. Wednesday, whether he's ever going to question what's going on, to which Shadow essentially answers "no".

It's definitely a book worth reading, but much heavier than anything else he's ever done.

Hi AG! I see that you are new to Shelfari so welcome! Also, welcome to your first group of Play Book Tag. I just watned to give you a heads up about some of the activities that PBT has going on so that you can hopefully get involved! We love hearing what other people are reading and getting their reviews on books.

The main activity (and the source of the group name) is a monthly tag. Every month we have a "tag": this month's tag is fairy tales. Any book you read that Shelfari has tagged as a fairy tale (or really any book that you think fits the genre) please post on our discussion thread entitled July Tag: Collective reads for our shelf. Lots of discussion will occur on this thread and the books you post with then be put on the PBT shelf.

The second large activity we have going on is Tag It To The Max which starts tomorrow and runs through the end of August. It's a little lengthy to explain here but if you search our discussion threads for it you will find rules for the game. Basically, it involves being assigned a tag from Shelfari's top 200 tags and then reading a book for each consecutive tag.

Other basic infomation about PBT, get-to-know-you games we usually play, and commonly asked questions can be found on the FAQ (which again you can find by searching our discussions).

So, welcome again to the group...if you have any questions about the game feel free to post it in a discussion thread on PBT or you can drop me a note and I will find the answer for you! I see you already have The Fairy Tale Detectives on your shelf so it looks like you are well on your way to completing your first book tag!

    Happy reading,
    Nicole
