Awk! I hate this part. If only I weren’t so boring!

I LOVE to read and I LOVE to write. My favorite genres are women’s contemporary fiction, mystery, thrillers and thoughtful literary that makes me think.

LOL! Thoughtful literary that makes me THINK? I rest my case, folks.

    Dear Terri:

Because you are a Shelfari friend, I thought I'd pass on to you a quiz I'm using to promote my new book, the 2nd in the HowToDoItFrugally Series of books for writers after the award-winning The Frugal Book Promoter.

The Frugal Editor is a must for writers and includes lots of good stuff important for any writer to know. It is, ta da! The Frugal Editor: Put Your Best Book Forward to Avoid Humiliation and Ensure Success.

Check Your Sell-Your-Book Expertise with Carolyn's Quiz

Every writer should know the answer to these or know how to find out :

    1. What is the rule posted by most agents and publishers I can break in order to sell my book faster?
    2. How can a style sheet help me edit my book or work better with my editor?
    3. Why do I need to know about indexing?
    4. How can I corral Word's Spell Checker to help rather than hinder my editing process?
    5. Why is editing important to getting a publisher or an agent when my publisher's editor will help me with that anyway?
    6. Why should I rarely send out a cover letter rather than a query letter?
    7. Why should I avoid using italics for internal dialogue? How do you avoid using them for internal dialogue?
    8. What perfectly natural and grammar-perfect thing should I avoid telling an agent?
    9. How can I turn adverbs that slow my narrative into metaphors?
    10. How can I purge my copy of passive constructions using a computer?
    11. How can code words in my document help avoid humiliation?
    12. How do I avoid superfluous quotation marks that annoy agents and editors?

If you don't know the answers to most every one of these 12 questions without peeking you are sure to benefit from the newly released

The Frugal Editor: Put Your Best Book Forward to Avoid Humiliation and Ensure Success

Didn't I see the great word "literary" in your bio? So, it is read literary? That's still a good thing. Maybe it's not such a bad thing you don't write it. It is very hard to sell. (-:

Welcome to Shelfari! From Kent, WA to "soon to be Media", PA--that's quite a move. The book buying obsession is all fun & games till I realize there is no wallspace left for shelves..what to do, what to do :)* What are you reading?

Thank you for the invitation. I always love to add a new writer as a friend--through Shelfari or otherwise. And I'm glad to hear literary not taken in vain. That's what my first novel is (and maybe my book of short stories) but these days I'm almost afraid to say so. You and I are going to have fun trading ideas on writing.
    Best,

    Hi Terri,
I'll not be attending the conference in Dallas this year. Maybe next year. I'm hoping to go to Jerry Jenkin's seminar in January.
Take care and thanks for asking!

Hi Terri. Thanks for the friendship request! As for the lip gloss, there is an explanation for my madness. lol. I don't wear make up because I end up looking like a clown. But, lip gloss is a way of me dressing up and being girly without too much effort or risk. In addition, lip gloss looks good no matter what kind of skin or hair day I'm having, and no matter what my dress size is. It makes me feel pretty:) Ok, well that still doesn' t explain why I have over 30 glosses and lipsticks. Um, yea, I'm with ya on this one. It makes absolutely no sense! I need an intervention. I've been good. I haven't bought a new gloss in, um, two weeks. I'm going strong!
