Senior Database Engineer
Shelfari (www.shelfari.com), the leading social media site focused on books, is looking for an experienced database engineer with operations management abilities to join its growing team. The job will require doing performance analysis and tuning of existing features while creating new features. This position reports directly to CEO and the engineer will receive Series A (first financing round) stock options.
Responsibilities Include:
- Primary ownership of the database schema
- Create new data models in working with the development and design teams
- Scaling a flexible n-tier application architecture as the website rapidly expands
- Managing and maintaining a large and very rapidly growing SQL Server 2005 database
- Monitoring performance of Shelfari’s hosted website properties
- Tuning database performance and working with development team to eliminate performance bottlenecks
- Infrastructure projections and procurement as more hardware is needed to support user growth
Ideal Candidate:
- SQL server 2005 management tools proficiency
- ASP.Net Application server development and management experience
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Love of books and reading
- MSCS, MSEE, MS Math or other technical degree.
Requirements:
- A+ player, with an A+ track record
- 7+ years of experience working on an n-tier application architecture
- Experience and knowledge of the end to end backend architecture and development, testing, and deployment process
- Experience should include working in a team on at least 3 large-scale web development life cycles from start to finish. Drive and passion for the database work. DBA experience on a large growing production SQL database
- DBA experience: development, configuration, tuning, management, load testing, and monitoring
- Application server experience configuration, tuning, management, load testing, and monitoring
- Team player focused on problem solving
- Self motivated and driven to accomplish goals
- Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Strong written communication skills are required
- BS computer science, engineering, math or other 4 year technical degree
