I think Ellis really got in trouble for his tall tales of Vietnam and discussing them at Mt. Holyoke, a womans college. You are correct in your point that it doens't take away from being a good historian but it does speak to his ethics and mind set. He is "older" and felt the need to impress young college women. A bit sick but a good narrative writer of history.
