I don't read for fun as much as I once did so have dialed back on the fiction. When I do read fiction it's usually of the Sci-fi/Fantasy/Gothic/Horror genre. I also enjoy Historical Fiction.

Currently I read a lot of material that falls into the heading of "Self Help" "Psychology" or "Metaphysical/Religious." I struggle daily with a...more »

    Hi Shellz,

    It's good to see other people into the "art of" books. Sometimes you feel like you are the only one into the essoteric art stuff.

    This Expose sounds really interesting, love the digital art as well. If it's anything close to Spectrum as far as imagination and diversity of art, I'll be all about it. You'll have to let us know how it is. I'm off to retrieve a grasshopper the cat brought into the house. Nice web site by the way.

    Christophe =)

    How are you? I haven't been on Shelfari in a while so I am trying to catch up with my friends. What kind of art forms do you work in? or perhaps I should go to your blog and find out!! Duh! I was just thinking as I added a few more books to my shelf that Shelfari should be a great place to find book artists or altered book artists. Since you enjoy self-help/inspirational books, have you read any books on creativity? I have a stack of them that I pored over for a few years, and just realized that I have never added them here. If you are interested, I could send you the names of a couple of my favorites.

    Thought you might be interested in this art group I started since you already have an interest. Trying to get some people together to discuss "The Art of ..." and artist books.

    Thanks for your note. I guess you would say I'm an artist of sorts. I do digital art, using Poser, Vue, CorelDRAW, and other programs. (My little logo is something I made for my book, Eldercare, which I am promoting -- it's an illustrated book -- and sci-fi satire).
    Shelfari is really quite interesting. Is there a way of searching other people who actually have the same book on their shelf as you or I have?

    Secrets of Poser Experts is quite good. Do you do a lot of Poser work?

    Shell - It was great to hear back from you. I am so sorry that you are struggling to be able to read or write. Buddhist teachings say that those circumstances are perfect for practice, but wow, very hard.
    Your journaling sounds fascinating. I am not a trained artist, so any "artistic" journals are pretty amateur. I did take a class at the MN Ctr for Book Arts on journaling. We made the journals then had artists come in to talk about their own journaling process. One talked about doing watercolors with the coffee or beer he was drinking while he wrote in his journal.
    I will look for some Buddhist writings that might be helpful to you with your physical challenges.

    I just noticed that you have a book by Barbara Sher. I love her stuff. I carried Wishcraft around with me for ages; and I have an entire set of 3x5 cards from one of her later books (darned if I can remember the title right now). I would be interested in knowing how you like it, and whether you are actually doing the exercises. Also, would you be interested in books on creativity? I have some references I could share.

    Shell - How nice to hear from you on my page. I am glad that you have found zencast. I will send you a private email with a bunch of other Buddhist podcast locations. I really enjoy Gil Fronsdal, so I have to encourage myself to branch out. He has a number of podcasts on zencast, but also on Audiodharma. I would love to hear your recommendation on Well of Souls by Jack Chalker. It sounds familiar, so I may have read it a zillion years ago but have no memory of it, even with the description. So let me know what you think. I am also a big Fantasy fan.
