    Hi Ruth,
I'm glad that you enjoyed The Chocolate Snowman Murders. Plus, I agree that The Cat Who... series is always good. No, I hadn't noticed that your brother was listed as the 1st manufacturer of chocolate in the U.S. Sure does explain a lot.:) (Speaking of which, I couldn't find the Mashup flavor but did find the Drumstick flavor. It proved a fine substitute!)
How is The Wordy Shipmates? I haven't read anything by Sarah Vowell yet. Blindman's Bluff was reallly good. I don't think there are any bad Faye Kellerman books. As usual, this story has a police case and a family story. The family story centers mostly on Hannah, Rina, and Peter. The police case involves gang members, a police interpreter, and a family of wealthy mall builders. Might even be a murder in there somewhere. Kellerman has included some of the same police officers featured in earlier stories. I think that her character development is terrific because you really get to know these police officers with each new story.
Have you read Stephen King's Dead Zone? I just started it.

    Hi Ruth,

I see that you are reading the Chocolate Snowman Murders. Let me know if you enjoy the book. I remember there were some characters that I hope to see in the author's other books.

I just borrowed Faye Kellerman's Blindman's Bluff, from the library. I love her books.

    Hi Ruth,

Sorry for the belated response. January was a hell month for me at work. Mich gave me this book for Christmas. It was a light fun read with many great Julia stories. You might want to try it. I have Jean Janet Evanovich on your recommendation and a big reader from works comments. I really liked her even though I didn't expect to like the series. Loved her Christmas themed "Between the numbers" book (someone borrowed it and I don't remember the name of it). I've only read the first one of the series but I will definitely read more.

I finally finished the Jack/Joan Benny biography over Christmas. It was really interesting both from his comments about radio and her lifestyle (just a little bit spoiled!!!). I also just bought Daemon. Let's start a new book between you, mich & me.

Hi Ruth, I finished Daemon. I liked it because of the mystery/gaming combination. I bet it will be a big hit with gamers. Plus, I think Jack Benny is funny, so I'm looking forward to reading that book. Jo said that she would lend me her copy. I just finished a book by Lea Delauria (with Maggie Cassella) called 'Lea's Book of Rules for the World'. It was uneven, but there were some funny parts.

I can't get Daemon through any library. Mich was lucky. I guess it's on to March. Do you have any interest in reading a biography of Jack Benny written by his daughter. I own it and have wanted to read it for a while. Mich is also interested.

I requested the Daemon book from the library. Two books, on your list, sound really good. The Kate Summerscale book and Wodehouse's Aunts Aren't Gentlemen.

Did you get the book? I requested it but it has not arrived yet. Did you ask Mich if she wanted to try and request it (or read it)?

It looks awesome! The only problem is that it's a new hardcover. Did you see it at the library? If we can all get a copy, I'm good with it. Send it to Mich and see what she says.

    Sounds good, Ruth.
I haven't thought of a good biography yet, but I'll start looking.

    Hi Ruth,

I'm still reading 'Carry on, Jeeves.' I'm glad that you enjoyed the stories. Sometimes, I have trouble focusing, with audiobooks. That's why I like the dvds. Stephen Fry is the perfect Jeeves.
What type of books will you be reading in your 'Read a Book a Month Club?

Sure. But there are many more mystery books that are not part of series too. Mich had suggested a biography. Either is fine with me but I think it would be challenging to find a biography that all of us want to read. Any suggestions for a mystery?

What should we read for February? Want to stay with humor or change the category?

    HI Ruth,

Glad you liked it!!! Mich and I are big fans. The Hugh Laurie/Stephen Fry videos are wonderful. They always make me laugh. I want Jeeves too (and Bertie Wooster's endless money supply!).

Are you enjoying Jeeves? I am laughing out loud on the bus! If the language is off putting, try an audio version first.

    Hi Ruth,

I'll try. I've only read about 25 this year but I'll try and pick up the pace.

I'm going to try 50 in 2009 too. I challenge you! I will be reading books that are less than 300 pages in December to make up my remaining 7 books :-)
I am about half way through New England White. It's a complex book about family secrets, academia (the reason I picked it up), afluent African Americans and a political mystery. It's dense but hard to put down. I have marked by favorite books so check them out and see if any appeal to you. We should pick book number 2 for the Mich/Ruth/Jo bookclub.

    Hi Ruth,
I read the first Evanovich book and liked it! She's kind of like a trashy Kinsey Malone. My goal in 2008 was to read 50 books and I'm way behind. I added most of the books that I read this year to my shelf but not the really bad ones. I know you've read more books so add some!

    Hi Ruth,
I'm glad to get a good report on the lastest Evanovich book. I'll watch for the new Cornwell and Koontz books. Good finds. They're both enjoyable authors. Loved your Dean Koontz observation! Have you read Intensity, by Koontz? I found that very troubling. I just started the Jane Haddam book - so far, so good.
