I don't get out much, but that gives me lots of time for reading. I like lots of variety in my books, and have a particular penchant for the Penguin Classics. My default assumption is that if something is published by Penguin, it must be worth reading. Usually that works out for me.
I'm a thirty-something computer programmer from the UK, but when out of the office I like to forget about computers and settle down with a book. A significant proportion of my reading is directed by the titles that appeared in the BBC's Big Read poll in 2003, and other similar lists of popular fiction. I like novels, historically significant non-fiction, the classics, the best of world literature, whatever. I read quite a lot of foreign language titles in English translation. A significant proportion of my current reading is to participate in group reads for the Bibliophile Club (where I'm an Admin): http://www.shelfari.com/groups/35185/discussions/306417/Index-for-Bibliophile-Club-Books-of-the-Month .
I've always wanted to have read at least one book from every book shelf I look at. And until I joined Shelfari I was doing pretty well there. But I keep discovering other Shelfari members with large shelves with no overlap with my own. So that's my challenge.... And yes, that is a mask I'm wearing.
I'm also a
Shelfari Librarian. This means you may see my name involved with approving/rejecting your Edit requests. And I also get that funny little ribbon around my avatar. If you want to discuss any of the issues related to Editing and Librarianship please do so through the Shelfari Librarian's and Editor's Group (
http://www.shelfari.com/groups/10713/about ). I'm not a member of staff here, just an ordinary member like you who cares about the quality of the Shelfari catalogue.
When not performing routine Shelfari maintenance tasks, I'm also a member of a Regency era historical dance group. If you're interested in stalking me then you can find some videos from one of our recent balls out on YouTube. And, *gasp* I'm not wearing my mask! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9LkZ0Jo95U , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCtkiWBR2GI, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSTFTvQaEXs . You can also find a book I helped to write on my Shelf.
Oh, you wanna know about my name? Sadly I've no connection with Pennsylvania. I'm just a fan of a prognosticating groundhog.
