I'm currently pursuing my PhD in English (esp. contemporary Irish women writers) but I'm interested in any recommendations for quality/interesting reads.

How's Any Cooper's book? Seeing it brings me back to my middle school, Channel 1 days, when I had a secret crush on that guy. Ah, sweet youth.

Ooh, Paula Meehan. I haven't read any of her poetry yet. In any case, I'm glad your Elizabeth costume turned out nicely (gah, envy!). I rather like Emma Donoghue-- some of her historical fiction is good, but I really, really think "Hood" is one of the best books she's written so far. If you do read her, let me know what you think.

Um, sub-areas: I don't know yet! Mostly feminist & queer topics in early modern literature. When do you finish your dissertation? That sounds exciting (but also scary, from where I'm sitting). :)

How long before I get to call you doctor? I'm finally reading Wuthering Heights. It is no Jane Eyre, that is for sure.

How'd your Halloween costume as Elizabeth I go? I'm totally jealous (I tried to go as Sin from Paradise Lost, but unsuccessfully so). And yes, I did my undergrad at UM & mostly worked on early modern texts while I was there. Which contemporary Irish writers are you working on? Your dissertation sounds fascinating (the only 20th century female Irish writers I've read are Kate O'Brien and Emma Donoghue. Shame on me!)

I wish this site had a blog. I can't deal with MySpace anymore. I'm reading Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell -- read it! How is A Nation of Women?

Did your friend also move to Durham? If so, how uncanny! Yes, you're right-- I do specialize in early modern lit. I was trying to figure out what your period was from your books but no such luck. Also, do you go to UM or FIU? I just graduated from UM in May, hence the question. :)

Nope, sorry, I wasn't trying to be deceptive! I added you as a friend because I was amused that the only other person with Traub's "The Renaissance of Lesbianism" added was also connected to Miami (I just moved). Again, sorry, but we do seem to have a lot of books in common. :)

I just finished Life of Pi -- seriously a great story. Please read it. I want to talk about the ending with someone. And who better than a professional student?

Kite Runner -- a good book for understanding some things about Afghanistan. However, a slow start. Any recommendations for me? I haven't really been able to get into a book since Harry Potter.

So... Flitwick was behind the entire thing, huh? I knew my suspicions would be held correct.... How's Pittsburgh? And when are you coming back?

I have read HP 7. It brought me to tears. All in all, a great series. You?

Well, you know, quality over quantity... And if that doesn't put you in your place, then I'll just have to remind you that I have a waaay bigger penis than you do! Thanks for the invite!
