I told my sister to tell you to check out "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (I don't know if the movie is out yet or not). I loved this book and I hated this book. In some ways I could barely stand to read it, but yet, I couldn't put it down. It really made me think about our culture. It was distrubing. The writing is superb. I was hooked by chapter 3, but had a very, very hard time with the last 50 pages. Took alot of breaks (sometimes only after two pages). I admit that I had to skim a little bit at times. I personally cannot imagine seeing the movie. I don't really know how to even rate it. I also know that I wouldn't recommend this to just anyone, but somehow (even though I don't really know you) I think you may appreciate this one. I'd be interested to know what you think if you do read it.

Thank you for sticking up for Legends of the Fall in the reviews. Jim Harrison is one of my all-time favorite authors—I'm working on a review of Legends myself (as well as a few more selections from the long list of his other works). I think part of the problem is that most of the reviewers saw the movie first, which was quite different.

Why, thanks! Did you find me here, or are you a blogspot reader? (I link to my shelf here from a book-reviews blog I do.) We appear to have a great many books in common.

    Pleased to meet you!

Things are going well...as you can probably tell I read a lot. I am just waiting for the weather to break so I can get out and start working on our new yard. This is our firlst spring here so we will have quite a bit of work to do.

The library system up here is great because I can request anything that is available in any library in MI... so there haven't been too many that I haven't been able to get. I do like to buy books though too, especially anything that I would reread in the future, or reference. Port Huron is about 30 minutes away and there is a Barnes & Noble. I do buy some books in store, but I always check their online price first because it is usually better. Every year the library in our town sells books for a donation. Amazingly, I have purchased many there too. Other than that, it's pretty limited. Detroit area probably has some places, but I don't really go down there often. Trisha says that I will 'freak-out' by all the bargain books down there. We used to have a Borders in the Mall here, but even that went out last year. I visited some large chain bookstores in Chicago last year, but nothing like what Trisha is describing.

So over Christmas I told my sister that I want to visit her this summer and go to some of the bookstores in your area... she is just going to pass me off to you...lol. Check out "The Black Swan" by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. (I am totally cheating with the audio book, but it is interesting).

Do you think I'll be able to complete Juliet Naked by the time I'm back?

We are doing well. Bought a house up in Amherst Ohio and having it remodeled so that is a HUGE pain in the butt!

Heard anything about "Kite Runner" apparently it is very popular... word of mouth. Put a hold on it at the library today. Check out the description thru shelfari... thought you might to interested. Also just read "The Pleasure of My Company" (Steve Martin) which is just laugh-out-loud funny at times... it's a real quick read @160 pages.

So I decided that I was going to read "The Grapes of Wrath" in six days... about 100 pages a day. Today is day 6 and I have 170 to go. It is really good. Plus the second book for "The Hunger Games" came yesterday. "She's Come Undone" reminded me a little of "The Bell Jar" and "But Inside I Am Screaming" with the themes of mental illness etc., I sware that I have known a few people like Delores... kindof scary.

Okay, I did read "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins and it is really good... quite unlike anything else I have read. I told Trisha about it yesterday on the phone. The writing is a bit choppy at times, and it's a bit middle-school level reading, but a great story with some interesting themes. Ordered the second book in the series yesterday since I cannot get it through the library. Thanks also for the controller for the PS1... that helps out a-lot. :)

Yeah, I sure did, I liked it, but having read most of his material, there wasn't much new to me, so it was more nostalgic than informative, but for those who don't know much about HST, this is a great intro and hopefully has and will turn on new fans. I got the tattoo after he died, seemed like a good idea and I still think so, it's the last tattoo I got, I havn't come up with anything else worthy of putting on my skin yet, but in time. My other arm is covered just like this one, but with some other stuff, an "Om" symbol and a pattern from a Tool album cover.

Okay, I try to read the book before the movie (honest), but another example of a GREAT movie, is "The Count of Monte Cristo".

No I didn't know that. I was thinking today that I need to buy the movie... I orginally scene it @ eighth grade, but it was on tv a year ago. I really want to read "The Grapes of Wrath" too especially after watching "Black Blizzard" on the History Channel last year... they replay that every once in awhile too. I know I read "Of Mice and Men" in high school, but I honestly cannot remember any of it.

My favorite scene in that movie is when Cal gives the money to his father... near the end. Did you know that what Dean did in that scene was not at all planned... they kept filming the other actor went with it... and it was exceptional!

Oh my goodness! "East of Eden" is my all-time favorite movie. So sad to say that I have yet to read the book. I am sure you have seen it with James Dean, yes?

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I stopped by the library today and picked up the Lamb book you mentioned. I'll start that in a couple days.

I will check out Lamb, thanks for the suggestion. Do you know much about "The Hungar Games" Suzanne Collins? That title keeps popping up a-lot.

I read this book right before the movie came out and really wanted to like it bc I thought with Leo and Kate teaming up again it would be worth seeing. This was a book that I just had a hard time wanting to finish. There are some interesting parts, and perhaps if I do see the movie it would help change my perception. After reading the book I no longer felt compelled to go see the movie in theaters. Usually I enjoy the book so much more than the movie anyway, but this may be different.
