I enjoy books and reading. (Who here doesn't?) I don't know where I'll find he time to read all the books I own, but I'm always getting more. The books I have here on my "shelf" are ones that I have read and found interesting enough to recommend and discuss with others. Those on my "reading list" are ones I'm reading now or have read most...more »

Honestly, I haven't read much post 1960 theology which is why I asked. I am a beginner - currently ate up on digesting Calvin's "Institutes" and Wesley's Life's Sermons (10 stinkin volumes of sermons). Anyway, my favorite book - which is very topical - on current theology is "The Moral Challenges of Capitalism" or "Arminian Theology: Myths and Realities." Good stuff. Now out to the bookstore to buy your suggestion! Take care!

Thanks for the invitation! I love theology - I am sure you encounter enough of that at seminary. So, a seminarian with a computer fettish. You should be able to do awesome things with that combo! Down with Microsoft! ;-) So, if I could only read one Christian theological work written after 1960, what should it be?

I just came across a Howard Thurman quote a couple weeks ago that I wanted to use in my book. I didn't know much about him, but I see that you have his book, Jesus and the Disinherited, on your shelf. Something I should read?

Paul, McIntosh's book Mystical Theology is a great read, I would highly recommend it. He is a Von Balthasar scholar who has a lot of great things to say about the task of spiritual theology itself. I would check it out.

That is interesting that we're the only two with that book on our shelves. I also used the Tyson text for a class. We were specifically looking at Christian spirituality in a medieval context. As a result we only used a portion of the text, but I found it to be very informative and interesting.
Also, just as a note, Elie Wiesel's Night is one of the most touching and insightful books I've read in some time. I've never read anything else by him, but that one was really very good.
