I'm a gamer, a metal head, a nerd.

I love anime, manga, "graphic novels" (cough*comic books*cough), Muppets, Transformers, Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer (I haven't had a chance to actually play either tabletops but only because I'm poor).

I love reading everything from Nietzsche (reading through the Antichrist made me laugh... more »

P- thank you for following my advice....but...actually you should only do what I tell you to do. your life should be based only on that. (smiling). Firefly is a short series. i hope you get through it all. if you do...and even if you don't...you already have a background in the story and characters so you can watch the move, Serenity. It's really good. but try and finish the series if you can first. I am reading Revolutionary Road now. I loved the movie...it was perfectly bleak and existential...my favorite tone. I am half finished with the novel and love it too. Other movies i have liked a lot recently are Coraline and I Love You, Man ( I have a thing for Paul Rudd). thanks to messaging me -Julie

thank you for putting 2 of my suggestions on your To Read shelf. there is a chance you might like either or both Cell and The Descent. Since you connect to sci-fi and dark things....The Sparrow might work for you too (I am so bossy). I see a Marilyn Manson book on you shelf. I like him...and 9 Inch Nails. Right now i am attracted to (musically and otherwise) Jack White of the White Stripes and Racontours. -Julie

it is not my intention to push you to watch all 7 (or whatever) seasons of Buffy...not that you would. Don't. But i did want to add one more thing. Keep the creator, Joss Whedon, in mind for the future. i know if you catch an episode or 2 of Buffy it looks awful....beyond awful....completely dumb and worthless. i know that. But...he does things with the story and characters that evolve over a big picture that is very fascinating and powerful. Do try Firefly sometimes, though. It is one short season and then see Serenity. You will get some idea what Joss is all about from that. -Julie

I have more respect for TV than i used to. there are things you can do with a series that arn't possible in a movie...or a short series of movies even. Things like extreme detail and plot/character development I like Dexter on Showtime and several HBO series. There was very dark and very good and very existential series on HBO called Carnivale that i liked a lot. My favorite ever was 6 Feet Under. Do try Firefly sometime (it only lasted one season) . that may be more of a guy thing. I really liked it too. Joss Whedon followed that with the movie , Serenity, that continued the story and characters. I am going to suggest another book. I don't read a lot of sci-fi but I recently read The Sparrow. It was excellent...and very, very dark. -Julie

you are not the first person to suggest the comic Watchman to me. I know he didn't do that one but i really like Joss Whedon and he a big comic book/TV show/movie connection. I never watched Buffy when it was on but did a complete run of every episode/every season rental run and he he did great. he devloped things and set you up dozens of episodes ahead. i watched all of the first season of Dollhouse and loved the Firefly series and the movie Serenity. The only other comic book connection i think i know about is the movie Sin City which i thought was great. -Julie

PGX- thank you for responding to me. I keep hearing about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and i love the cover. I don't know your thoughts on Stephen King....I have mixed feelings. Many times I feel he needs to be seriously edited. But....if you haven't read his, Cell...I think you should. It is short and lean and nasty. It has a nice end-of-the-world feel that always draws me and scares me. While I am suggesting...The Descent (not related to the movie a couple of years back) by Jeff Long. It has a lot in common in structure and quality with World War Z...but it is not about zombies. -Julie

I'm not scared of you. (well...maybe a little . his picture is scary and almost all the books on his shelf have death in the title). I also thought World War Z was exceptional. and Zombie Survival Guide. World War Z was not just the greatest zombie book ever...which would not be a huge honor....but actually excellent literature. -Julie
