I'm a New York City aficionado, I love architecture, especially Art Deco/Art Nouveau, 1960s music & movies, paranormal romance, urban fantasy and some science fiction. After reading Scott Westerfeld's dystopian "Uglies" series, I've developed a taste for other dystopian fiction, such as Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games series. Lawrence Block's... more »

Did I reply to you on these subjects? So behind in some things. Have been on Facebook a lot and Bookrix where I can post my writing. And I cannot sit long at the computer as it is uncomfortable for me. Make Room Make room is more dismal than Soylent Green was, but some years ago I found the sequal in a book of short 9sci/fi) stories but cannot think of the name of it. It carried on where the first book left off, obviously b ut do not remember the end of it. I have delved into other works of his but all seemed tainted by this same 'downer' attitude. Do I really want to be that depressed? I do not think the book you mentioned is the Spring one i was thinking of. How are you anyway?

Make Room, Make Room is somewhat more depressing than the film Soylent green which I love and have a DVD of somewhere (must search it out now I have the wherewithall to watch it on my computer withiut annoying my daughter.). Many years later, quite by accident, I cam across the sequal but cannot remember the title. That was even more depressing But I needed to read them having watyched the film and loved what they did with it. Same as I liked the other Charleton Heston one (love him too, pity he has Altzheimers) 'The Omega Man', more recently re-filmed as 'I am Legend' (also read that bopok after the film).
As to the 'Winter' or Spring' book, I am not sure but thought it the product of a much older giant legendary in sci/fi. Getting old is a barque, lots of titles have left my mind on a temorary basis. I do remember that the creatures (for that is what they were in the book) resembled something like Bison/buffalo warriors lor at least, that is the im pression I got at the time.
I did more recently read boolk called Spring (I think) whwer people lived inb trees and a lot of things in the book were like we use today but there was space travel as well. It was set on a different world od couse. It was a gift book and although there were more in the series, I never found any other books by that author, I seem to remember and that was on ly a few years ago i read it. Your knowledge is more up to date than mine in this field.

I met a lady once who was enthralled by the Thos. Covenent and lent me some of the books. I ploughed through all six in the end but was not enamoured so much There was another series one boolk called The Ruby Knight (I think), but again, I felt the author went off at a tangen t and did not fin ish the series.
I read one book by someone famous and it was either called SPRING ior Winter. Was weird, but interestin g. I used to like Ursula Le Guin but have not read her lately. I want tko get Make Room, Make Room one day.

Hi, I used to read all the big names in sci/fi years ago. I want to get back to thenm at some poin t but I am on an Historical fiction kivk at the moment. I have bought Do Androiids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick and some Poul Anderson for my Kindle. I used to read 'Astoun ding Science Fiction ' books and other of the same ilk. All fairly short stories at that time. I have read the Cities in Flight series and the Slow Glass series (cannot remember the authors), Have read some full length novels but it was so long ago. I have written my own books in a similar genre but not sure to call the SF or Fantasy.

Wow, those sound awesome. If I were to try the darker Matt Scudder series, what is the book to start with?
