so how is Frankenstein going?
I am about on page 60 something of Grapes of Wrath...plus I'm over halfway through the "Gifts" book......which actually is quite interesting
I don't know how on earth I ended up having so many books going at one time...because I have also finished my latest Swindoll bible study and am now back in the Old Testament on Deuteronomy....well, a review of the ten commandments never hurts I guess

My weekend has been ok thanks, i'm working for all of it but I love my job so it's fine.

I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books, i'm not sure why. I have always been told they are young adult and my efforts to read young adult in the past have resulted in reviews such as my one for 'The Forest of Hands and Teeth'. When I get tired of reading 'heavy' books I usually end up reading 'Warhammer 40k' novels. Trashy sci-fi nonsense which just allows me to switch my brain off and relax.

I'm pleased to hear you are going to read 'The Illustrated Man' soon. I too have tattoos (only a few) including some literary ones.

After reading what you wrote about Atlas Shrugged you have convinced me to at least give it a try, i'm worried my viewpoints and Rand's will clash (My political views are to the left and obviously I am a Christian) but I don't see the harm in trying. Sadly it will be quite a while before I am able to get to it, I am already reading James Joyce's Ulysses which is massive and will take a long time to read and I am working my way through a four volume Folio Society book set of America's Founding Fathers but I promise I will add it to my list and get to it eventually.

Thank you for your compliment in referring to me as an 'intellectual' but I can assure you I am just an average guy who loves reading :o)

I totally agree with you about To Kill a Mockingbird, I don't think kids or teens can really appreciate it. Now that you've mentioned it I think it's high time I re-read it. Such a classic! I will have another go at 1984 when I get the time, it seems I have so many books on my TBR list i'm getting snowed under a little.

I like your attitude towards Christianity; so many people criticise it (and religion in general) without looking closely and doing their own research on the subject. At least if you thoroughly investigate it you can make an informed decision about whether or not it's for you rather than just jumping on the atheist bandwagon and say it's all nonsense.

I've never read any Ayn Rand but I have heard of Atlas Shrugged. It seems to be one of those 'love/hate' books.

I'm glad you've added I Am Legend and The Hobbit, they are both very different books but equally brilliant. I don't know if you've seen the Will Smith movie but you'll be surprised at the differences!

Thanks for your message and your compliment about my reviews, it’s taken a lot of practice but I love reviewing books.

I’ve been looking at your shelf, I’m a huge Steinbeck fan too; he’s my favourite writer by far, so much so that I ration his books because I worry about running out!
I’ve added ‘Plato’s The Republic’ to my TBR list as it’s a book I’d be very interested to read. I intend to re-read 1984 too, I read it years ago when I was a kid and didn’t like it so it’s about time I gave it another chance.

I notice you’ve got a few books on Christianity on your shelf. Is that a subject that particularly interests you?

honestly, I don't know about juggling so many books....several that I am reading are part of my bible study/inspirational reading...and now I am still working on the Jobs bio, just in the very beginning of Hesse's book, and the Idiot's guide to Zen living just arrived today.....geez.......oh and I have to start on the next book club selection whenever we pick it.....

David..go to the search bar and on the far right where it says "books" scroll down to "members"....type in sthurner and you will go to the shelves of one of my favorite people to follow on shelfari..she is a former teacher and I always enjoy her reviews.....sadly, she has a bunch of friends and did not accept my friendship request that I sent a year or so ago...but her shelf is not private so you can browse it without being her friend
oh on a different note I purchased a glass head (yes, a glass head) just because it was kind of funky...right now it is on the bookshelf upstairs wearing a bronco cap...but it was so funny because after it was rung up at the register the cashier asked "do you want your head in a bag?".....the look on the woman's face next to me was priceless
