Hello all!
Well here goes...As you can see my name is Jackie. I was born in Indiana and raised in Europe (I'm an Air Force brat) with my four older siblings, two of whom still live in England with their families, where I grew up (Milton Keynes to be precise.) I currently live in the Mid-West but I have lived on both the West and East coasts at some point in my life.
Growing up in England I couldn't help but fall in love with Jane Austen, Emily Bronte and the likes, what can I say, I love the Regency era! Hence you'll see that reflected in my book choices a lot. Now on the flip side, I am a huge sci-fi fan, I love Star Trek as well as classics like Asimov's Foundation series, authors Arthur C. Clarke and Robert Silverberg. I chewed my teeth on C.S. Lewis' Narnia chronicles (I'm still upset that The Magician's Nephew is never acknowledged in films, even though it's the first book - not The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe!) And of course, Tolkein. I rememer an English kid's program called Jackanory, it was where a celebrity would read a book to the audience for 5 days in a row. I remember the actor Bernard Cribbins reading the Hobbit, and I was transfixed each time the program came on. I also love some of the children's classics that I read, like Finn Family Moomintroll, 101 Dalmations and the sequel Starlight Barking, Carbonel, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH and of course The Phantom Toolbooth.
What can I say? I'm a book lover, I love going into bookstores, especially second-hand bookstores and browsing away.
