I am a librarian at a medium-sized suburban public library in the southeastern USA.

My "Books I've Read" shelf contains ONLY the books that I read in 2007. For 2008, I am using the "Books I'm Reading" shelf, since Shelfari doesn't seem to provide a graceful way of dividing the books up by year.

Each shelf includes both the...more »

I just finished "Skin Hunger" by Kathleen Duey and I really liked it, but I can't seem to trick anyone else into reading it because it's a bit more morbid than most YA fantasy. If you have time though, you might want to take a peek. The only problem is that the ending is rather abrupt and she hasn't even finished the second book yet. Harumph.

Hey, any time - what I usually do is put books on my shelf as I begin to read them, then I rate them when I'm done. By the way, I'm still trying to figure out why someone with a Welsh name (Llywellyn) is writing so much about Ireland!

I forgot to mention - I also like to listen to at least one book while reading the other in print. I listened to Gods in Alabama and recommend it. It was not read by the author but still well done.

After your comment on the Group site, I came to check out your page. I was surprised we only have 9 books in common since we have both librarianship and Southeast US in common. Care to share what state? I noticed you weren't crazy about Between, Georgia. Have you read Gods in Alabama by the same author. I liked that one but I haven't read Between yet; though it is on my list. By the way, have you noticed that you can put when you've read a book when you enter your comments and/or tags and stars. That might solve your problem with wanting to keep before 2008 separate. You can then arrange your shelf by "date read."

I plan to check out your Book Quiz.

Hi MockTurtle - just wanted to thank you for your notes on the group about WWII England and Irish Troubles - I despaired of anyone responding! Your list is interesting - not too much overlap with mine, but some of the authors are the same, just different books. It's actually more fun to look at someone who isn't too similar, so that you get new ideas of things to read! I'll try that book quiz thing, it sounds like fun. - MiriamQ

MockTurtle, tx again for knowing about Johnny Got His Gun & also for the lead to BluePyramid. Here's my analysis, LOL: You're The Poisonwood Bible!
    by Barbara Kingsolver
Deeply rooted in a religious background, you have since become both isolated and schizophrenic. You were naively sure that your actions would help people, but of course they were resistant to your message and ultimately disaster ensued. Since you can see so many sides of the same issue, you are both wise beyond your years and tied to worthless perspectives. If you were a type of waffle, it would be Belgian.
What a hoot! Have a copy, but haven't actually read it yet--but I really loved her Prodigal Summer...don't know if I really want to be tagged with engendering disaster, though! But oddly, my Dad always did tease me about the schizophrenic thing, LOL.

Hurrah! I have considered be-friending you for some time and now you have beat me to it. Oh, and apparently I am "Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I don't entirely agree with the site's analysis of me, but I do have an uncanny connection to that book.
