I live in a house that was once a farm cottage, c.100 years old that still looks out on farmland. With great originality we have called it The Old Farm Cottage, as it seemed to want a name & nothing else seemed to fit. The poor thing has had a checkered past, with some years as a rental which it didn't care for much. It seems to like my retro things which probably seem the height of modernity to it.

I am a total biblioholic; no matter how many bookcases I have it is never enough & some books end up lying on top of the others. To cater for my fix, I always have to have handbags which have room for a book; God forbid that I should have to wait for a bus or be in a cafe WITH NOTHING TO READ. I began at 3 & haven't stopped since; can't imagine what people who don't read DO .

I have bookshelves floor to ceiling on two sides of a room & a smaller one in this 'room' (actually a bit of what was once a passage with a convenient alcove for the computer table), all crammed.

I have a BA from one university & an MA (Hons) from another; mostly in 'Eng Lit', social history & languages . What a luxury to discover Shelfari & meet people who read the same books as I do. « less
