All the books I've read since 2000 are on my Shelf and a couple here and there from before.

Generally, love fiction. Trying to branch out into non-fiction. Recently read Team of Rivals about Abe Lincoln. Great book - I feel smarter now. Took me almost 2 months to read. Whew! I can go back to fiction for a while. : )

I came across your name in a round about way when I came across your group: Eat Good Food, Read Good Books. I just finished Pillars of the Earth and your group was one of the one's mentioned by Shelfari as having the book on your list. I took a peek at your Eat Good Food bookshelves and it looks like you guys have read some great books!

My book club, The Late Night Bookies, also tries to match the menu to the books we are reading. Pillars of the Earth is our book for July, we are meeting tonight and have chosen The Bohemian Brewery (in Salt Lake City) as our dining location.

Anyway, I hope you have a stellar Friday! HPG

    Re: JOHN ADAMS miniseries
I don't subscribe to HBO, so I haven't been able to watch it. I'm sure it will be out on DVD eventually, so I'll catch it then.

Hello, again. David McCullough's JOHN ADAMS is definitely worth reading. I've also read recent bios of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin, all by different authors, and while those are interesting, McCullough's is the best written. My husband has read 1776, also by DM, and he says that that is very good, also.
I also highly recommend A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS, although it is every bit as devastating as THE KITE RUNNER.

Hi, MartiF. I know what you mean about nonfiction. I try to read something nonfiction every 4th book or so in order to enlighten myself, but it does take me a while to get through it. I've been reading the biographies of our founding fathers, and while I've found them fascinating, they are also somewhat tedious. (Is that contradictory?)
I also agree with your review of THE MERMAID CHAIR. I too loved THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES, and I wasn't necessarily expecting this one to be as good, but I thought it was, frankly, poor. The only thing I appreciated about it was the beautiful SC setting.

Hey Marti, yeah my friends list is growing but that is because I accidentally sent an email to everyone in my yahoo mailbox, OOPS! Have you been out to enjoy the snow yet? Jason and kids went tubing but no skiing yet. Tell me about your bookclub.

I thought you might be interested in a contest that I’m holding. It’s wacky, creative and ‘killer’ fun.

‘Create a Corpse’ Contest lets you name a character in my next suspense novel Divine Justice. Of course, you guessed it—the character dies. So here’s a great way to ‘kill off’ your boss, or childhood bully. ;)

For contest details, just scroll over the following URL, copy and paste into your browser. This contest is for avid readers who’d like to be part of the process. I’ve been getting lots of entries from my Shelfari friends, and I look forward to receiving yours. :)

It was quite a while ago. I think it was OK -- I wasn't wild about it, but that doesn't mean others won't love it.

I'm thinking about adding some really hi-brow stuff...I haven't really read any of it, but it looks good.
