I've been in love with reading books all of my life. The harshest punishment for not obeying my parents was to have to put up the book I was reading. I would rather get a spanking than not be able to read.
I made up stories while "reading" the paper aloud to my sister when I was 2 years old. I still have most of the Little Golden books of my childhood (& there were a lot of them). My parents gave us books on Valentine's Day. Trixie Belden mysteries were my favorites, I never read Nancy Drew. Donna Parker & Annette were my next favorites. Then I graduated to adult Christian novels. Francena Arnold & Grace Livingston Hill were good ones to start with. In high school I read Eugenia Price. After my 1st child was born, I discovered Janette Oke. I read all of her books while sitting in my rocker nursing babies.
I love historical fiction, romance, suspense, murder mysteries, chick lit, old books, new books, just about any kind of book.
I spent 20 years homeschooling my 4 children & they are all voracious readers also. It must be in the genes. :-)
We've been blessed to be able to travel a lot through the years. Both with our kids & without them. My marriage is very important to me and my in-laws were always glad to keep the kids so I could go with my DH when he had medical meetings in exotic places. As a family, we loved to camp. In 1994 we spent 2 weeks camping from Louisiana to the Grand Canyon & back by a different way. What an experience!
I've always wanted to write stories. My grandfather wrote stories. He died in 1929 when my mother was a baby. My grandmother kept a notebook he had with a story in it. He had no education so it was comical to read. I always told her I would rewrite it someday. In high school I took a short story class & really enjoyed it. My teacher had high praise for my work & encouraged me to do more. Then came marriage, babies, & homeschooling so my writing was put on the back burner. All my kids are grown now & my oldest DD is an aspiring writer. She's encouraging me to get back to it. We joined ACFW & are attending the ACFW conference this year. So, here I go!
