UofP on ground classes - mostly Mass Comm right now, but I taught a World Mythology class that was pretty cool. Frustrated is a good word - is disgusted too harsh? I would love to teach where the students are thinkers (or have the potential to be) and not skaters (skating through a degree, anybody?). I would also like to choose my own course materials, but so far the texts haven't been horrible. The assignments that I can't change are another story. Anyway, when I'm not teaching, I read. And when I am teaching, I feel like I should be grading papers - oh, wait, I SHOULD be grading papers. Crap.

Okay, so White Teeth is a go. Teaching sucks the life out of me, so during those breaks when I'm not, I run through books fairly quickly. That's awesome about the writing! I'll have to check out Hemon - sometimes I'm just in a mood for short stories. I haven't gotten into Dexter the TV show yet, but I think the premise is completely understandable - it's good that I now know that there are books (companion or predecessors?). I'm teaching as well - a World Mythology class last spring and currently a Mass Com class of sorts. I don't have much say over curriculum, but I have a say over what I force in their minds! The lack of readers is beginning to depress me. Reading/books are so very elemental in my life - if you aren't a person that understands that, it will be difficult for me to understand you. Is that flat out snobbery or reverse snobbery? How are your classes going?

What are you reading now? How are you? I'm tempted to try White Teeth again - it was assigned once in undergrad, but I couldn't make it through.

People of the Book - is a favorite why? I've read something else by her and I think it was sad . . .

And, any good vampire recommendations? I LOVED Fledgling - if you haven't read it, but I need more vamp fare.

Hm, "like" is such a strong word. It was okay, as in, it has a interesting premise and some good characters, but lacks depth, fluid writing, and often the plot forgets to connect the dots. I had to push through it. I liked it enough that I bought the second book, City of Ashes, for $8 at Target. I like the names and the tattoos.

Hunger Games is on my list too - is it a trilogy? That new SERIES button on here just brought a lot more books to my attention. Just don't know when I'll find time to read them all. Nor do I need this site mocking me about reading one book last year and no books this year (as a result of my inability to put in the exact date I finished any book). We'll see how quickly I give in to their demands. How are you doing?
