I am an avid reader because there is nothing really good to watch on t.v. I mainly read African-American fiction but am trying to expand my horizon. So, if you have any good book suggestion please drop me a note.

you miht be suffering from the "i wanted the first black president to be perfect" syndrone... if you look back through history of 43 of presidents that look like me, there have been about 3-4 that werent total embarrassments. FDR was probably the greatest, in my opinion, but boy did he have a lot of shortcomings, not the least racially. so there was one jesus, one buddha, even brother martin wasnt perfect, but he probably was more so than obama will be, and keep in mind, and dont take this the wrong way, but all three of the iconic heores of the 60s jfk, mlk, and rfk, (and malcolm) had the advantage of dying young and becoming as much myth as men within their own generations

pretty much:) i have been nuts about him since 2004, vbut did get pretty pissed with him about a year ago, but realized his feet of clay would not keep him from being the best president we have had in my lifetime, and i am getting old:)

    helloo
    mahoganyrain(what does ur name mean)

i was really glad to hear about ur intrest in undrestanding about afghanistan's history
i thought i can help u to undrestand this book better so i send u a comment i posted abouty this book i wish it could be use full for u
I read this book and i watched the film too
i am afghanistani so i should undrestand this book in a way that others dont
here in this book everything is about afghan ethnic which is called "pashtooon" and the other ethnic calls "hazara"

this book contains a very umbagious image of afghanistan history in which the hazara people just for being hazara was jenocide and for long time they were threated in the crulest way

in abdor rahmans time(afghanistans king) _120 years ago_ about 62 percent of hazaras were executed just for their ethnic deferences.(amir had read about it in his mother's book and had shown that to his teacher)
hazaragi men were killed and their women were victims of rape and arrested and take and sold as slaves ,childrens were sold in indian markets as slaves they had too walk long distances if they couldnt they were drop dawn from the high of mountains or leave to die in deserts

my words cant reflex the reality of what happened those times to hazaras as kite runner couldnt do it as well

but this first atempt to show the world that what happend to hazaras in afghanistan is apriciatable
here in this book asef , amir, amir's father, general taheri and all talibans, and those who killed ali's father and mother all are pashtoons and in writers view they all are one person who has many deferent carachterastics.
they all r pashton. in his view pashtoon is a person who is alway escaping from reality(amir) who is the robber -who robed the reality from amir hassan and ali- (amir's father), who _even in america in a country in which no race diference is accepted_ is a racist (general taheir) a faciest and hitler's fallower (assef) who kill inocents to clean the world (from hazaras) but we see he him self must be the first one who must be cleaned up for all his crimes

and sohrab ,hassan, ali and ali's father and mother (who was killed bye another pashtoon as hassan was killed bye pashtoons) are all one person they all are different faces of hazara
misreables , poors honests faithful nice real friend, clever, hard working

Hello dear member of the Black Feminist/Womanist Literature group! It's J., the admin., and I'm writing to inform you of the group's new look! (And it goes beyond the change in our group picture, though it is nice, don't you agree?) :) What we're discussing now: Patricia Hill Collins' Black Feminist Thought, Toni Morrison's Sula for our July read, our little BIG Read: 7 short stories in 7 days to begin later this month, the National Black Arts Festival where Alice Walker and Pearl Cleage are featured speakers, and more!

We'll soon have a group blog up and running, will begin profiling the uberly dynamic authors within our own group, discussing women's/girls action coalitions in your city, reviving some of our good ol' threads, etc.

I challenge everyone to invite at least one friend (already a member of shelfari or otherwise) to join the Black Feminist/Womanist Literature group and to log in at least bi-weekly. (Though weekly would be wonderful!) And I pledge to do the same.

And did you know that Toni Morrison's new novel, A Mercy, is due to be released in November? Ah, you would if you'd visited our group page! (No, actually, I haven't posted this information. lol) But do stop by and fall into the purple haze that is extraordinary literature by feminists of color!

    Love, Jaya
