I am an avid reader of all kinds of literature. Happily married for 42 years to a wonderful man who has indulged my penchant for reading and who has tolerated my always having a book handy no matter when or where. He has even added to my library on our monthly anniversary on occasion.

I am an avid reader of all kinds of literature. Happily married for 42 years to a wonderful man who has indulged my penchant for reading and who has tolerated my always having a book handy no matter when or where. He has even added to my library on our monthly anniversary on occasion.
I have four grown children and they, too enjoy reading for pleasure, and three grandchildren who also enjoy receiving books on special occasions and at their young ages (17, 15 and 9) have decidely definite reading preferences.
There is only one author who I have met, Robert Ludlum and I have a signed copy of every one of his books...
My favorite book was Centennial by James Michener and the only book I have read more than once.
I had a friend once who said he always finished a book even if he didn't like it as he felt if the author took the time and energy to write it, the least he could do is read it. I, on the other hand, feel there are so many wonderful stories out there I will never be able to read them all, so if I get halfway through a book and still do not feel that I understand the characters or enjoy reading about them, I will abort the reading in favor of a good book that I enjoy. Reading for pleasure for me is just that, pleasure. Reading something I don't enjoy is like reading a text book that has been assigned. That has actually only happened a couple of times in the last 50 years...
The first book I remember reading on my own was a copy of Grimm's Fairy Tales given to me by my parents on my 10th birthday. I treasure that book to this day and I thank my mother for reading to me as a younger child. She brought the books alive with her theatrical and innovative reading voices and as one of my brothers taught music and drama at a midwestern University, I feel as though she gave all of us children a love of the classics.
I have never felt the desire to write although I have had many people over the years tell me that I should "write a book". I think I have a tendency to color my conversation because of some of the literature I have read.
It thrills me that my daughter in law got me started on an online book club. Thank you, Tawnya! I enjoy reading about other advid readers and seeing the bookshelves of others gives me ideas on who to read next!
