I grew up with a book glued to my hand -- I was that awkward kid who walked into things because she couldn't peel her eyes away from the pages long enough to walk from point A to point B. Unfortunately, during high school and college, work and studies dominated my spare time and my bookshelf was lonely and neglected. Finally, after many years I am finding the time to indulge in pleasure reading again and feel that I am finding my sanity as well. Nothing is as soothing/comforting/cathartic as crawling up with a good blanket, my dog and losing myself in the written word. Though i have many favorites, the Giver is my comfort blanket and I will reread it after a bad shift or whenever I find myself stressed and overwhelmed. I will read just about anything though, from chic lit to memoirs to textbooks. And usually, I can't make a fair assessment about whether I like the book until around page 150. At that point, if I'm still not invested the book usually returns to the bookshelf and enters the land of misfit books (ones I deem not worth finishing). I'm usually reading at least 2 or 3 books at a time, because who knows what I'll want depending upon my mood :)
