    Howdy again,

RE your combination request for: http://www.shelfari.com/books/140922/The-Collapse-of-the-Third-Republic-An-Inquiry-into-the-Fall-of-F

Combination requests are based on content equivalencies therefore we don't combine "partials" such as Part 1 or Volume 3 etc with the whole work. I'm rejecting those pieces of this combination request. For more information on this and other editing guidelines, I encourage you to study - http://www.shelfari.com/groups/59851/about

Let me know if you have questions.

    Thanks!

    Funny, huh?

A lot of those misspellings and odd things are from Amazon Marketplace Partners. You know, the members who sell their copies via Amazon? There may be only one publication of this book but there were, I suspect, quite a few copies. That is what the combined edition on Shelfari tries to manage. Putting all the copies - even the copies translated into other languages all together under one umbrella.

The thread entitled, "Why Edit..." on the Editing Guidelines, Policies, and Helpful Hints "group" tries to explain how all this works. - http://www.shelfari.com/groups/59851/about

EtA:Yeah - the discussion search features on both Shelfari and Amazon are, er, a little, um, er, primitive. On the L&E group, if you search for "blue covers" or something like that, you'll probably find a lot of those discussions.

    Greetings,

Re those "dead link" editions found in almost all combined books. They exist for a number of reasons. Some are because Amazon has deleted them from their catalog. Some are from amazon.com. x - where x is one of the Amazon satellite sites. Shelfari, at this time, links directly only to ".com" - However, amazon.com has combined some of those editions with their own and, thus, they migrate to Shelfari.

We leave them where ever they are found. Ultimately (we hope) Shelfari will link to all the "amazon.com.xyz etc.)

In any event, at this time there is no way to remove any edition from Shelfari's catalog so we leave the dead-links alone. What I personally do is, after using the "see at amazon" link for each of them and ensuring that I get the "404 error, I put them in a newly-created Language set. I name them "xx-Dead Links" so that they will always be at the very end o f the edition tab listing.

Some of the "empty" looking editions will not be blank. For the editions that ARE legitimate amazon.com entries but still show that "empty" edition, I have no explanation.) I put them in the appropriate language/subcategory sets. Even the editions that point to another Amazon site (most often .uk.)

Let me know if you have questions. Most of this is often discussed in the Librarian and Editor's Group.

    Thanks,
