Good morning! I am a member of the group Words/Quotes. I found you on the Teacher Group. I am not a teacher, but we have an interesting discussion going on in our group. We started a discussion called “Oxymorons”. A member posted ‘new classic’ as an oxymoron. Another member posted this response: “Now actually, I'm not sure I agree. In my fun student group and the ones for classes we've often debated about what makes something a "classic" vs. "fiction". Does something have to be old to be classic? Was Wuthering Heights a classic in its time? Catcher in the Rye was hailed as a new classic instantly...and here I am teaching it 60 years later."

So we asked her to start a new discussion and she started a discussion “My reward for posting a tangential comment…”

Is it an oxymoron? I have had discussions in other groups and with students about what possible new classics are. When Catcher in the Rye came out, it was lauded as a classic immediately, and here I am teaching it 60+ years later. Does something have to be old to be classic?

The discussion continues from that point. If you are interested or can answer our question regarding ‘new classic’ and/or what is a classic, please look up this discussion on our group. We would sure appreciate it! Thank you.

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn
