I live in England and I hate writing profiles but here it is :( When I was 13 I got hit by a car and damaged part of my brain, since then I developed a compulsion to read, and do so at an accelerated pace. It’s I guess the least annoying of the symptoms I was left with after the accident. I'm lucky to have an amazing family and a boxer dog and... more »

Hi Jamie,I didnt really fancy Apartment 16 really,i I picked it up and put it down on the library shelf so many times, and I still see it there,so dont bother. But thanks anyway!
So sorry for the prodding and poking/I had my yearly smear test recently, and luckily it was OK.Back in 2007 I had some cells than were mutating, and had to have them removed,so I have to have a yearly smear for nine years :0( .Fortunately it was fine. Then I had my 3 yearly mammogram test, and -big sigh of relief- it was fine too.Three years ago they found a lump and sent me to the bgger hospital 15 miles away, took X-Rays,said I must have more, kept me waiting hours for the results, and then rushed me off for a ''wire '' test, where they shove a needle into the mass.More waiting for the result, but thank god it was benign. So I am having yearly tests to make sure I am OK- and so far it is good. Two healthy results in a week were real boosters .:0) Now waiting for more tests on my eyes Its getting pretty bad using the computer for long periods of time, since everything blurs, and if I look in the sky,I see three overlapping moons, looking a bit like a clover leaf! The same results as drinking a bottle of whiskey, but without the pleasure! ;0)
So sorry to hear about your health problems, they seem to never ending! I really feel for you.I seem to get a variety of things which get sorted(except for my crippling arthritis,no end in sight for that),but you have so many serious problems I truly admire the way you plod on and manage to cope with them.
Truly sorry about you losing your dog.Its something we can never cope with, even if we have suffered a loss before. After I lost three cats in 7 years I gave up with having pets. The kids were growing up,and we were too stressed,so I gave up having cats after a lifetime of having them. The road outside our house has gradually over the years become a constant traffic hazard, buses, cars and lorries. And though our cats had a 40 ft long back garden, with lots of neighbours'gardens all round, and even a small stand of trees and bushes for stalking pleasure,no,they wanted to be out the front, running across the major road for a boring patch of grass and a pub carpark.Go figure. I dislike the thought of keeping cats locked up all the time, and our cats always seemed to be stalkers and hunters, but after three deaths I gave up.Still miss having pets!
Not too bothered about having books.I read Nora Roberts, but dont really want to reread.Wouldnt mind Montana Sky if you ever see it.Or the J.D.Robb books.I have about a dozen of those Someday I'll make a list of the ones I want, but honestly,I just never have time for rereads since joining shelfari.I remember in the old days going to the library checking out my favourite genres, and often finding no new books whatsoever,so I would reread old ''friends''.Now I have huge lists of books on my TBR,and never have time for rereads. And nowhere to put more books.Every nook and cranny,in cupboards and behind chairs,is already packed to the brim.Would only have room for something special! But many thanks, its kind of you to think of me. Take care, and hope you can get back into reading more. Its been good to see you back in the swim more! :0)

Jamie,so sorry to take so long to answer you,After over a week with no shelfari-I think you have heard about the saga of my poor computer -,I found I had so many posts to read and answer, plus beginning of the month lists for group reads etc, that I took time to get around to looking at my notes, only to find every man and his wife had been in touch.I often go weeks without a note,go figure.I have been answering in order,so you are near the end. Many apologies. No I am not offended by your offer, which is very kind. However at the moment I have about 50 library books sitting begging to be read on my shelf, and I checked my personal online shelf to count all the books I want to order from my library, and it is 97.i am obsessive about not letting it get above 100.I keep a running reservation list at the library,15 books limit, and as I get and read reservations,I replenish the 15 from my catalogue list. For two months I havent been adding to the 15 reservations,to get my spiralling library books back under control, but any new book coming in view has been going on my online list which as I said,is now nearly a 100.So I am SOOOO not in need of books at the moment, your volunteer library will benefit much more. But thank you for thinking of me,probably next year when the council cuts really start biting,I will probably be begging you for books! lol.Certainly I wouldnt mind you sending to my address if ever necessary.
Mind you if you ever see any Harry Dresden books around I would snap them up.J.D.Robb and Jim Butcher are the only authors I read where I would like to have my own copies.Once again, thanks for the thought. So kind.
How is your health these days/ Its nice seeing you participating more.We need all the posters we can get on the Booknabbers these days.In Talulah's time we were usually among the top twenty posting groups, now we dont even appear in the lists except in the all time list, where we are 26th! not bad in less than two years
I have been so swamped lately with my computer woes, family bithdays-and its Mother's Day this weekend -babysitting and so on I have not had time to just chill out and look at friends shelves etc for ages.I hope you are having some good reads at the moment.Happy reading!

    Hi
I hope this invitation doesn’t seem too strange. I have written a story that eventually would like to submit for publication. Some of the people I know have read it and said it’s reasonable but I’m not sure how nice they are being - a friend of mine suggested trying some other readers but not too many of my friends read, so I thought I’d try posting the chapters to a small closed group on shelfari.
I've set up the group but not sure how to work the invatations.

I do want people to be honest about what they think about all aspects. As well as not being sure how good the actual idea is, I also have mild dyslexia, so although I think I’ve caught all the mistakes, it’s hard for me to judge if I got them all!
I realise that people are busy and might not want to waste reading time on something untested. I’ve been reading your discussions/ responses in other groups and based the invitations on this and the books on your shelves.
I really hope you would be interested in helping me with this project. If you can’t – then thanks for reading this.

    Best regards
    From Isobel

Jamie,so good to see that you have been able to get some reading done, especially since its been the summer holidays.I have been inundated with my family this month, with the kids all on holiday.I am at least 6 books behind what I should have read, were it not for constant interuptions. However, all my kids, their partners and 5 grandkids are going off to Spain for 10 days on Sunday.!2 of them all together! lol.I am going to have some quality time for myself,a few days out and about, sorting out my family tree notes withno grandkids to cause havoc, and of course a lot of time for reading.YAY.isincerely hope you headaches have subsided a little, and would dearly love to hear from you but will understand if it is too difficult.Do you ever have a chance to look in on the Booknabbers.I hope so,even if you arent able to participate.Take care, get in touch if you can. x

Of course they should go on your shelf, they are already on mine,well,A.A.Milne and Beatrix Potter, never came across Thomas, with 6 grand daughters and no grandsons lol.Look at my shelf under childrens book tag,it might jog your memory of books from the past(the olden days,as my kids always used to call them, conjuring up the days of old when knights were bold, and stories told of Lancelot and Robin Hood!).
Well the knees had one days rest but I had our Ava from 8 am till 6pm yesterday, and did my fortnightly shop at Asda etc this morning, and I was so shattered and in so much pain I dozed off an on all the afternoon, and still feel dozy now.Hate sleeping during the day,you feel rotten afterwards.
As for the AOTD,I am in the fortunate position of having had 50 years to read in !lol. You get through a lot of authors you know. The AOTD are just suggestions, but why not check out one day of the week which fits a genre you like, say Monday crime day,or Thursday SF,fantasyetc.I do very well on those, but spectacularly poorly on the general fiction/literary fiction day, where Book Concierge does so well.Reading is for fun,so play to your strengths.I have a load of general fiction authors in my Unread AOTD list(its on my Tracker group )thread. One good thing is that many of the general fiction authors on the list are not available at my library,so that's a relief ;).
Just laughing at your description of the aftermath of the little angel's(?) visit. My house looks like like all the time. Not content with upending two toy boxes my demon grandkids also love to pull out all the pans from the cupboard(fortunately got a childproof gizmo for the double cupboards with domestos etc) Our Elyse(17 mth) has to have the Tv remote and continually increases the sound or fiddles with the buttons till everything disappears, then shoves the remote at you in panic. She has a love of mobile phones,we can never find them when she is around, and perhaps you read the saga of her demolition of my computer-and nerves-on rantamania on Sunday?.To think I had 4 kids.Mind they were spread out, born 1970,1976,1979,and 1984,otherwise I doubt if I would have survived!.Think of that crazy woman who had 8 at once a few years ago.Oh boy! lol

Hi Jamie, same old knees, but havent babysat for 3 days and could rest in afternoons, which is a help-plus I have more time to read!Hope you are feeling a little better, and hope you can participate a little soon.I find myself babbling away, trying to get discussions going.Talulah was so good at that.Even if she hadnt read an author she would ask some questions, you could reply, make a few jokes etc.Now I am normally the only one ,apart from Christina who comments on AOTD.It was the same last year when she was off 2 months.Wat a difference her bubbly personality makes!.Take care x

Hi Jamie, hope you are recovering. My grandaughter is fine now,I'm back to babysitting,I had a houseful of family yesterday, with one daughter sleeping here-so everything is back to normal, and its taken 3 days to finish a book ! lol.Absolutely crippled with the arthritic knees though from shopping, family etc-no time to rest.Howevr no visitors today so I'm trying to rest the legs.It looks like I am going to have to get knee replacements, they are getting so bad.Lovely-not.
Isnt it a pity that Talulah is no longer able to participate? I really miss her madcap input, especially the chickens! I know you were ill,but I hope you can catch up on old posts.Good to have you back.

Its so good to hear from you,Jamie!.I hope those awful headaches have calmed down a bit.I'm same as ever, hobbling round after hyperactive toddlers. However for 2 weeks this month, the tribe all went off to a caravan and I had nothing to do after morning chores and cooking meals except read, read, read.WonderfulI will have read about 27 books by the end of this month, probably an all time record.Back to normal now though, and have my 12 yr old grandaughter off school with sickness and diarrhoea, her mother will drop her off at 7.30,and I'll have her till 6 pm.Havent finished a book in 3 days lol.
So take care, dont overdo it,but keep in touch
