My name is Paul, and I am am a biblioholic. What I really need is another house just for all of my books ;)

My overstuffed shelves contain - FICTION: Douglas Adams',"Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" & his delightfully mislabled Hitchiker's "trillogy," Mr.Shakespeare's "Hamlet," Jane Austen's entire life's work, J.R.R.Tokien's... more »

you and me both on the books! There are the old ones from 1809 that I like to look at when I have time. the 1st editions, the old collections, Reference, and the absurd! I swear by my book of knowledge set made in 1942! and dickens, and elliot The grapes of wraith! and...my garfield set when i am sick to make me laugh. rice and koontz, and the wheel of time! I have to put my stuff around my books cuz books are sublime! I love the smell of the paper wafting through the air, and didn't you know Biblio's are rare!
My dream place to spend eternity, would be a big library with books from Ceil to floor, a neverending jukebox to play whichever song, and endless plants and flowers to showcase it all!
ever since I was little I wanted my own store of books, It really sucked when everyone said I was a kook.
But the joke is on them, cuz now, I wrote my own darn book!

I hope I brought a smile with My little rhyme
And thank you oh so kindly for giving me the time.
and wishing me a happy birthday, It made my eyes shine!

    Mia. :)

The most boring book I have ever read is probably the Magician's Nephew, by C.S Lewis. All the other books were great, but honestly that one just dragged on.

If I am reading a book, it has to have lots of tension, and surprising for me, fighting. I do like mythical books, like Eragon for example, but honestly books with fairies, and little pixies and stuff is way too over the top for me!! For example Enid Blyton's books, which I used to love. I think I have grown out of them now!
I think a tiny bit of romance is alright, but I just don't want the whole story revolving around it. But of course I will have to make an exception for Twilight, like most girls do! Twilight and the Host are like the only books I enjoy with lots of love in it. I think it is because of the concept, and all of the unreal creatures, like vampires and werewolves.

And so what is the most boring book you have read, why, and what do you like in a story??

Thank you for your advice!! The reason I have only got the Return of the King on my Shelf is because basically is scan through the most popular books of the moment, and then if there are any on there that I am reading at the moment, have read, or are planning to read I will add them to my shelf! A pretty random way to do it but, yes, thats how I do it! I have read the Hobbit, and it is a great book, and at the moment I am reading the Fellowship of the Ring. Thank you for your advice, I will add all the others to my shelf.

Oh my god, your comment about needing another house for your books is so funny, and I totally agree with you! I have so many books, and sometimes have as much as five books on the go! I love reading, about 1/2 of my time is spent doing that!

Paul - I love your remark that you need another house for your books! I'm in the same boat. My husband and I are both book freaks and our last trip to the library book sale ended up with stacks of books on the floor. Not sure where we can fit another bookcase, but I'll give it a whirl!

Hi - Welcome to the History Non-Fiction Group. I'm the Admin for the group and am interested in what our members like to read and what they want to get out of this group. If you haven't already done so, please introduce yourself in our "Welcome and Introduction" thread and tell us what your interests are. We're into our Jul-Sep quarterly group read and I've sent you a separate note about that. Again, glad to have you with us!

The History Non-Fiction Group is reading The Linguist and the Emperor: Napoleon and Champollion's Quest to Decipher the Rosetta Stone by Daniel Meyerson for the Jul-Sep quarter. This book discusses the two men whose lives intersected over a love of all things Egypt and led to Campollion solving the mystery of the language on the Rosetta Stone. The book is fairly short - only 271 pages including the Author's Note at the end - and easy to read so it's a good book for the first ever quarterly read. Discussion thread will be posted mid-September. Please join us.
