Hi Granita, I miss reading with you. I'll be reading: "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" and "Big Fish". I just finished "Empire Falls" and "Peace Like A River' I enjoyed both......Nothing to compare with LG though...sigh.... I sure miss the interaction there. MJ

Hi Granita, just dropping in to say HI! I've joined a couple of groups on this site...Caribbean Literature and writers, and Poetry. Poetry is having some really nice discussions. We are trying to get a group read going in the Carib Lit group. Don't know if you are interested, but check it out if you are.

Are you reading anything in particular now? What? I finished Didion's "Slouching to Bethlehem a little while ago. Enjoyed it! I feel like I might like to read her "Year of Magical Thinking" since it is so recent. I also just read her "Salvador" which was the only book of hers my library has on its shelves. Everything else has to come through interlibrary loan. Odd that Salvador is the selection they have. It was very reportorial and I found myself spacing out quite a bit. I do remember the political issues of that time so to some degree I could relate, but I liked "Slouching" a lot more. D

Hello Granita (and Dutchie), I loved the Shadow of the Wind and would enjoy reading it again. If you don't mind, please let me know when you two decide to read it and I'll join in. TTFN, Craftymaid

Hello Granita, Yes I am coming down this year but will not have a car this time. You people with BIG city driving (lol) is too nerve-racking for me. Email me if you think you will be able to come my way.

Granita! So grateful you shared this site with me. At first, I was thinking that is was going to be more of a book club type forum. Being so busy I knew I couldn’t commit. After taking a peek, I realized it was something different. At this point in my life this is so much better.

I see Shadow of the Wind is on your shelf. Have you read it yet? If so and you liked it you may want to try The Thirteen Tale by Diane Setterfield.

I had a chance to see “My Family” with Jimmy Smits. What a great movie, thanks for the recommendation.

Looking forward to sharing more books with you!

Well, I finished "Play It As It Lays" Sunday afternoon, then read the whole thing once more. (Short book, ya know so it only took a few hours.) That second read brought it much more into focus for me. I "got" what was going on at the beginning of the book which just seemed very confusing on the first time through. I finished with a very favorable impression of it. So I do look forward to reading more from her. Diane

Granita, you have Joan Didion's "Play It As It Lays" on your shelf. I am finishing that one now and have"Slouching..." orderer from my library. Decided I needed to read her...we'll see how it goes. What did you think of PIAIL? I'm not sure I get it. It feels very empty...maybe that is the point. There are some humorous moments but on the whole it feels very tragic. Diane
