Hey, I'm Grace.
I'm British born, from just off the south coast of England :). I love to read, but I guess that's obvious given the site I'm signed up with!
I tend to go for Sci-Fi and Fantasy as a general rule, but I do dabble in other genres as well. (Although I'm really not fussed on romantic novels or chicklit, it just does... more »

Have you read the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson? It is probably my favorite trilogy ever. If you haven't read them you definitely need to try them out! Anything by Sanderson is awesome. Also, have you read any of the Wheel of Time book by Robert Jordan? I have to suggest these because they are my favorite series ever. lol

P.S. The part in Royal Assassin where Fitz goes postal and murders the two members of the coterie was so awesome. I was about to give up on the book until that happened and now I can't wait to read book three!

I really love it! Book two really got me into it. The part where Jezal gets his face jacked up and he wakes up to Logan saying "You're one of us now." was so awesome to me. I can't wait to read the last book, and I will definitely let you know what I thought when I read it. I also have 'The Heroes' by Abercrombie but I haven't read it yet. I see that your like the Farseer Trilogy. I have recently read up to book two and will read the last one here in the next month or two. I see you like Rothfuss and GRRM as well, two of my favorites!

Hey, I noticed that you had some very similar books to what I had on my shelf, including Paolini, GRRM, Sanderson, and Abercrombie. I recently read 'Before They Are Hanged' and just bought 'The Last Argument of Kings'. Just wondering what you thought about the First Law Trilogy.

Ha! I saw that you're planning to read "Among Thieves" and I thought "Hell, did they commission a book after game turned out to be so successful? I've got to read this!"

Well, now I know it's not related to the Uncharted series in any way. Sounds interesting, though, so thanks for planning to read this ;).

I am echoing what Koren said and looking forward to chats as well. My parents were born in England and I grew up learning the Kings English...lol., so to speak. I love everything morbid and especially trying to see inside someone's mind to learn why they do what they do. Fascinating!!!!....), Rita

It's very hard to describe the Dark Tower series to be honest, Stephen King seems to have blended numerous genres to make the series. It's a pretty long series at over 4000 pages and it pretty much seems to stand on its own in concept I think.

It has both fantasy element(naturally Tolkien was an influence for Stephen King) and light sci-fi elements as well. The narrative seems to start off in a world that is akin to a Western(apparently Clint Eastwood and the old Western movies were an influence for the main character and the setting). I think what King does well with it is to drop you these little hints about something much bigger and then draw you in wanting you to find out what comes next.

I've seen the fantasy and sci-fi elements and they caught me completely off guard, I haven't got a clue what he might throw in next or what the next book will be like because the books really do change a lot from one to another. I'd definitely recommend you give it a read it doesn't work for everybody and it can be a bit hard to get your head around but for all of its faults and shortcomings it is quite effective at getting you glued.
