Gleek

Gleek

My name is Gleek - really - and I study Folklore and English at two universities in eastern Canada.

It's complicated.

I'm twenty-odd years old and this site will probably prove more detrimental to my study habits than Facebook or Twitter combined.

That's probably the most a person should know about me. more »

Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (BOTM) or you can debate the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in the choosing of BOTM and the discussions. The current books are pinned to the top for that month. There are older discussions that can be found by searching discussions. If there is any way the group administrator can help further feel free to ask one of us. If you don’t own the book the list can be found at the top in the group description or at http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm?content_id=22845. A downloadable list of the second edition is available at http://johnandsheena.co.uk/books/?

donations would be greatly appreciated, I'm up to my ears in stupidity.
We're reading The Tempest right now and we're going to be reading The Book Thief, so all that's okay. And a collection of poetry called the Rattle Bag, I think? Oh, and Death of a Salesman, which I've never been so hot on.
For the short stories, we also read A Good Man is Hard to Find, Gimble the Fool, and A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings. I liked the last one. It's not so much what we're reading, but how we're dealing with it. As in, the prof drones on about his opinions, and people in the class go "wait, whaaat? I don't understand any of this... what does that word mean? where am I?"
Honestly, I think you shouldn't have to take this stupid course if you can actually use a comma properly.

yep, that about sums it up. my prof kept saying "this is just so GOOD to read!" and one girl in the back kept saying "waaaaait, so, like, she goes into the wallpaper? like... alice in wonderland?" and I just wanted to beat my head against the wall. words cannot describe how much I hate that class.

Hmmmm, I see you've read a book with The Yellow Wallpaper in it. How'd you feel about it? I just read it for English.

oh... that's true. Though, I tend to be very nice to books.
Unless it's something like Twilight. I cannot be nice about something like Twilight.

Hi. Did you like The Curious Incident book? I've read similar stories and can recommend them.
I also like David Sedaris and Jack Kerouac and The Beat writers.
A friend loves the Lolita story and it inspires her poetry.
I've read some older Stephen King.
