Julie

I am a 39 y.o. at-home mom of a nine-year-old daughter and six-year-old son in northcentral Indiana. I love my babies, but reading is my escape from the world of t-ball, twirling, grade school, and girl scouts--not to mention the whining and begging that go along with being a mom (theirs, not mine--that doesn't count).

We seem to have a lot of books in common.. You seem as fond of historical fiction as I am. What would you reccommend as a "must read" (if you could only pick one)

I really like your new avatar! I feel like it sums up my life sometimes. I always catch myself laughing at something someone says then stop and realize that I really don't understand the joke! LOL

Hey Julie, you never gave the response to the last kokology paragraph! I was enjoying the game - and don't have any answer!

Wow! do we ever have a lot in common. I was attracted by your avatar, i love the way those few words created a visual for me.

We have 100 books in common including Jean Plaidy which I read a very long time ago. There was a time when historicals were practically all I read. At this point in my life though, I read all kinds of genres. I never thought I'd read fantasy or chic lit but I most definitely do. Its probably because I am a librarian and I read lots of wonderful book reviews so I put them on my TBR shelf. I also picked up on your comment about your library books. The word "library" whether spoken or written always attracts my attention.

I love LaVyrle Spencer and I'm so sorry she retired, I've also read Water for Elephants and loved it. I see you have Garden Lies (actually twice - did you know?) but didn't see Sugar Queen - terrific stories both.

I am a mom but my kids are almost as old as you. But I've been where you are :-) I have two sons and two grandsons; there may never be girl children in my lifetime!

Anyway, just popping in to say. Feel free to check out my page and shelves. Since you said you like chic lit let me introduce you to Enchanted, Inc by Shanna Swendson; it is quite delightful.

Hi Julie. You are now tagged for PBT's Meet, Greet, and Be Sweet. Here is a quote I loved from Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert:

"It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection." :)

Thanks, Julie! My kids are 12 and 10; in addition to being an avid reader, I'm also a novelist. I don't get to log into my Shelfari account as often as I'd like (I'm in the middle of getting out some revisions for my agent), but I'll check in as often as I can. I look forward to being more active in ths group!

Thanks for the warm welcome Julie! I'm excited to be a part of this group. I'm a 34-year-old SAHM blessed with two beautiful boys -- 3 yrs and 15 mos. We live in the Kansas City, KS area. Reading is definitely my escape from the daily demands (and sometimes drudgery!) of motherhood! I'm looking forward to reading some of the upcoming books that will be up for discussion.

I love to read historical fiction, chic lit, sometimes fantasy (i.e. Lord of the Rings trilogy), memoirs, classics and so much more!

Hi Julie. I would love to be a part of your group. I have two children, so I can relate to the 'escape' technique of reading. When I am not reading, and not doing mom stuff, I am writing and teaching so a good book is important to me. Thanks for the invite and i look forward to talking with you.

Hi Julia, Glad you like me had a good experiennce with breast feeding but you made a good point about genetics causing problems, for sure breast feeding can not over come genetics but I think kids have a great start when breast fed. If you are enjoying the group please post any topics you find interesting, you can then see what others are saying. Hope to see you in the group.Take care, Sheila aka Deltasky
