I have been a bookaholic for as long as I can remember. I have books in almost every room of the house and have been known to stay up all hours of the night and call in sick to work just to finish a book.

I am an avid reader of mostly sci-fi, fantasy and horror, but am open to anything that is well written.

I also enjoy... more »

More exciting news at the Suspense & Thrillers Group…as you might already know that Keith Katsikas, author of “2060: The Newton Prophecies” will be leading a discussion on his book. We don’t have a date set up yet, but will in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, Amanda Stevens, author of THE DOLLMAKER, has also agreed to lead the discussion for May’s Group Read, which is THE DOLLMAKER. I’m really excited as this is something new and might become a new trend with our group discussions. If you’ve already read the book, come join us. If not, see if you can grab a copy. There’s still time as the discussion won’t begin until the first week of May.

I loved the Cheysuli books. They are really good if you like lots of magic and fantasy and horses and swords. They remind me of Katherine Kurtz Deryni chronicles alot I'm sure I read some where that Jennifer Roberson was a fan of hers too so that would explain it. The rain/hail storms did not do too much damage in my neck of the woods. I made it through ok, but my cats were not happy. When ever we have big storms they are convinced its me who is making all the noise. Its Like 85 right now, but thats Texas weather for you.

    Hey Gashly,
I was just thinking about dropping you a line :) I am okay unfortunately I am not able to read as much as I was before the baby :( but that's okay. I have added The Other Boelyn Girl to my wish list but I have not read it yet. Let me know what you think. I am currently reading The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell and East of Eden by Steinbeck.

Where do you find all those great books you read? My library has NOTHING & the bookstores only have them special order and I hate buying a book without having it in my hot little hand so I can read a few pages and make sure it's worth buying. I've been trying to find some torrents to download, but haven't had much luck yet, because I just have no idea what to look for other than titles.

Canticle of Lebowitz is a great book. It was a fast read for me. When I have trouble reading a book I put it in the bathroom and read it when I'm in there. If I don't take it out of the bathroom to finish reading it in a few weeks then the I know that book is not for me. I am glad I rethought the tattoo too. I have three and I spent at least two years thiking about them before I made the plunge, cause I dont want lazer removal. I hear that hurts more than the tatt. Living in texas is nice, its the people and their mindsets that can be bothersome at times. I have family in Tyler too and Hawkins, thats what us city folk call the country. East texas is beautiful, not alot to do though. I hope you get around to Canticle for Lebowitz its like a future mash up of religion, science and space travel. HAppy reading

I gave up on "A Princess of Roumania" after 25 pages. The author's style got on my nerves very quickly - he has that tendency to write lots of details in descriptions and scenery, but gloss over important plot set-up. I tried twice and just didn't like it.

I got started entering my books and saw that we already have 34 books in common! I haven't been rating stuff yet. Do I have to review a book to rate it? I am so thrilled to finally "know" someone else who likes Anne Perry. She is one of my favorite authors.

Hope you like it! I ended up exchanging some emails with the author --- nice guy. If it ever becomes book of the month over at BR, he will join the discussion. Let me know what you think of the book. I also have the sequel in my pile.

I did enjoy the Cage. In fact I listed it as one of the top five books that I have reviewed. You can read the review at my website www.SuburbanFiction.com

    Thanks, Alex H

I think there is a "bug" or it's a "new" feature on Shelfari. When you click on the title for With Caution you don't see the reviews (had me confused too, I even removed the book from the main shelf because I didn't see your review with 3 stars). At the top of the page however there is a list of "stats" and the third or fourth link shows "2 Reviews", if you click on the Number in front of the word "Reviews" it takes you to the reviews, and you can read mine (I only gave it 2 stars).

I wouldn't say that Blindness is a bad book. But it doesn't work for me. Too raw for me. And the usual Saramago deadpan humor appears only in flashes. A very bleak book. And Scary. Very Scary. Knowing you, you must be licking your lips in anticipation. [laughs]

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll try and pick up those books and let you know what I think. Have you read Patrick Suskind's Perfume and David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas?

Actually, yes. I'm working my way through a book series by Ron Goulart featuring Groucho Marx as an detective. It is absolutely laugh-out-loud funny. I also finished listening to The Book Thief today and I was totally blown away by the ending.

Hi Nancy, thanks for your recommendations! Out of them I read only "Time and Again" by Jack Finney (but now I think I really want to re-read it). I'll check other books as well, especially "Perdido Street Station" -- I'm fascinated with China Mieville after reading "King Rat" and was thinking what to read next so your recommendation comes as a nice hint!
