Hi… I haven’t read any of the Books (twilight, eclipse…) yet… but I’ve read some answers to my question and figured that the story/plot is not original...you’re right … for me it’s kinda like the anime “blood plus”… or is it another vampire love story? ... but I don’t know… guess i'll just have to borrow a book and figure it out myself... Anyways, thanks a lot for answering my question :)

You don't have to read this if you really don't want to.

"New Moon, a novel by Stephenie Meyer, is a unique book of romance and suspense. This is the second book in a saga of four and is carrying on the matchless life of Isabella Swan.

Moving to Forks Washington to live with her dad Charlie isn’t Bella’s idea of “fun”. That is until she unravels the mystery of the Cullen’s family in book one, Twilight. In New Moon, she already knows that Edward and his four other siblings, whom all attend her new school, are blood sucking vampires. She knows that they are drawn to her blood, human blood, and for some reason Edward has a particularly hard time resisting her. These exceptional vampires are considered “vegetarians” compared to others of their kind, because they feast only on animals. Bella loves Edward in such a way that life would be impossible to live without him. You might say she is too obsessive. Then the book takes a twist on its path and one heartbreaking day he leaves her. He only does it for her sake because it is dangerous to live so closely to a vampire. Telling Bella that he no longer wants her, he says goodbye.

Many months pass. Bella is dead. At least that’s the way she acts, numbed from all emotion. One day she is suddenly awaken thanks to some unconscious part of her mind, which envisions Edward’s voice as if he is beside her again. Bella believes she’s insane or that some part of her still wants to believe that Edward cares about her. She now lives to hear his voice and does whatever it takes, no matter how dangerous it is, to hear him. The “recipe”, as she calls it, is a blend of putting herself in danger and getting her adrenalin pumping, which is what he obviously wouldn’t want her to do. Driving along in Forks one rainy day, as it always is, she picks up some old motorcycles being given away. Of course she would need riding lessons and someone just to get them running, so she decides to stop at a friends house, Jacob Black’s.

Bella begins to have a life again. Even though she is still not complete with a whole in her chest, Jacob makes her happy again. He holds her together when she needs a friend the most. With him she gets her “hallucinations” of Edward to continue while riding the bikes he fixed up, doing it behind her dad’s back.

One evening Bella goes to see a movie with Mike, a guy Bella knows from school, and Jacob. After leaving early from the theater because Mike has the stomach flu, Bella and Jacob become sick. Bella has a speedy recovery, but Jacob appears to have something else so he remains unwell. Bella tries to visit him, but when no one is home she fears that he had to go to the hospital. Once she realizes that Jacob is avoiding her and that something is dreadfully wrong, Bella decides to go to his house and just wait there until his return. Jacob does return and with a pack of his other friends. He is severely angry with her for showing up and they have a fight. This isn’t the carefree, smiling, Jacob she is use to. When trying to figure out what is wrong, life only becomes more difficult.

That night Jacob wakes Bella, sneaking in her window. He desperately wants her to know what is going on, but he tells her, “Sometimes, loyalty gets in the way of what you want to do. Sometimes, it’s not your secret to tell.” He lets her get back to sleep so she can think about it in the morning. Later when she wakes up Bella knows what is going on. From a dream she had that night the one very crucial detail that would change everything was suddenly brought forth. Her best-friend had become a werewolf.

Well this arises a major problem. Werewolves and vampires are sworn enemies. Alice Cullen, Edward’s vampire sister, shows up, and Bella lets Alice stay as a guest in her house because she is beyond happy to see her. Jacob feels betrayed. Other than the unbelievable strength, the amazing speed and incredibly strong senses that vampires have, Alice has another gift. She can see the future. Though not always accurate and subject to change she has potential visions. When she sees Bella jump off a cliff into the sea in the middle of a storm she thinks Bella is dead. What she didn’t see was that Jacob managed to pull her out of the water. Bella wasn’t trying to commit suicide. She only wanted her crazy hallucinations of Edward to continue. That was the only reason Alice came to Forks, but while she is there a few phone calls and the use of Alice’s gift reveals another disaster. The news got to Edward that Bella was dead. So he goes to Italy where the Volturi family lives. He asks these very old, powerful vampires to do something awful. Edward only lived because Bella was alive, so he asks them to destroy him. He no longer wants his life. Edward feels doomed to live eternally with the guilt that he was the reason Bella died.
The story becomes a rescue mission as Alice and Bella fly to the airport, hoping when there isn’t much of a chance that they will not be too late. There I will stop and not spoil the story for the rest of you. At the end the problems are not fixed and have you in anticipation for the next book. Bella doesn’t have the perfect character. The downer to this book is that she doesn’t have all her morals straight. What someone said about these books fits perfectly, “He resists temptation.” (Meaning Edward) “But she embraces it.” Well it’s not completely true. They both do some not so smart things. On the other hand the story line to the book is appealing and is written extremely well. You come to know a lot about Bella since New Moon is written from her perspective. Stephenie Meyer expresses Bella’s emotion in a way that draws you into her character, so you feel what she feels. Not everyone has the talent to write like that. With its good and bad, in the end New Moon makes a captivating read."

Oh, and it is a bit too generous. You won't like the fact that I enjoy Meyer's writing style. :)

    LOL to that last part!
I didn't read the leak, but that is cool that she wrote it from Edwards view. That does sound like a better book.
Yes, if you look at Meyer's books too closely you will find holes.

Glad to help. I had been wanting to right a more critical review on the series and that was a good opportunity. If you find any good books that are suspence/romance or adventure let me know! I think I saw Pride & Prejudice on your shelf. I love Jane Austen movies and have been wanting to read some of the books.

Yes let me know what u think of Twilight later.

    Hi Enjoumaru!
I have read both Twilight and New Moon and do plan on reading the next two, but I thought you should know I few things about this series before you read it.

When I began reading Twilight I was on my way home from a youth trip so I had a lot of time to read. From that day on I was always reading Meyer's book in my spare time and late into the night. I am wishing now that I hadn't acted like it this was the only good book on the planet to read. Don't get me wrong, this series is captivating and unique. I wanted something fresh in romance/suspense books and I found it. But if you don't look carefully you could miss some of the more subtle messages that are unwelcome.

In parts the series speaks of God, heaven, and hell. I think that’s cool but the characters or more pointedly Bella (the main character) doesn't care about her relationship with God as much as she does seeing Edward everyday. She says... "Compared to the fear that he didn't want me, this hurdle—my soul—seemed almost insignificant." Through out these books it is clear that Bella doesn't care about her soul, the core of who she is. "So let's both just be hopeful, all right? Not that it matters. If you stay, I don't need heaven," she later says.

Next of all she is a very typical American teen. She allows Edward to sleep with her, at times she does stuff she knows she shouldn't behind her dad's back, and she wants to be beautiful. I do not have a problem with people wanting to be beautiful, (who doesn't ever feel like they want to be prettier?) but it’s a problem when it affects your self esteem. And the other things are obviously wrong.

Through a review that I read, I also learned that Edward and Bella are doing a little more than holding hands and occasionally kissing, in one of the books ahead that I haven’t read. I might have to start skipping pages. I don’t know. But isn’t that sad? Do teens really need that kind of stuff in the books they read?

So in the end I am disappointed. As I once read, she embraces temptation, but he resists it. That is kind of the theme. I think Bella could have been a much better character. Besides these few things that I disagree with, and every so often swear words, Stephenie Meyer is a striking author. She really gets you into Bella’s head and it is a wonderful experience. Though these books should say on the front, READ WITH CAUTION.
We might not disagree on the same things, but let me know if this helps. I also wrote a book review on the New Moon that gives a summary of the book. I can post it if you would like me to. Sorry to make this so long and by this point you probably have already started to read these books, but enjoy them. I did!

I think it would satisfy your desire for light reading to counterbalance heavy school stuff. Twilight seems to appeal to teens primarily, mostly females, but I do know a number of adults who enjoy the series. The first book deals a bit more with establishing the relationships in the book and the others get more into the actions and conflicts of relationships between humans and vampires. I enjoyed it, but I teach teenagers and could see it from their point of view.

I would say read Twilight. It fits under the "low-browed print slapped between two covers" category. If your favorite Les Mis is the unabridged version, you'll knock out Twilight in an afternoon.
