Hello all. I am an older reader, having loved books all of my life. I have a tendency to read everything I can get my hands on ... like the Yellow Pages when that is all there is! That is not to say I am not discriminating ... I have definite likes and dislikes and prefer literature that is "clean" according to my own values. So, when I say I...more »

I saw what you said about "Dangerous to Know". I managed to go to the end, wondering where the story was going throughout the book. And then, b4 I could predict it, all hell broke loose. Quite a lot happens, and it is very shocking.

Hi Anne, Currently I (and Mel) are reading "Gilead" by Marilynnne Robinson. It is different, and so far I am having some difficulty getting into it. Mel is way ahead of me. Our book for August is "The Memory Keeper's Daughter", Kim Edwards. I saw the made for TV movie so it will be interesting how the movie followed the book. I usually don"t see movies before reading a book. Have you started "Pillars of the Earth yet? Happy reading. Peg

I love them. Our boys went to school in Santa Barbara and I like it when I know the area where the books tskr place. I have all of them through T if you want to read them. Have you read any of Alexander McCall Smith's books. I think you might like them also. Sharon

I don't read very much. It would be a nice thing to start in my old age. I did read a romance novel a day after my husband passed away. I did that for months. I would like to upgrade a little. If you can sugest a book for me maybe I will get started. Thanks Mary

Good for you! Your friends are more responsive than mine were. I've managed to get one or two (including you) to join, but that's all.

Anne, I am in a book club and we have just finished
"Love Walked in" by Marie De Los Santos. It is an easy read, could possibly be considered a "chick", but there is a message. Mel has read all the Grishom books. Don't miss Pillars of the Earth," Ken Follett. You won't be able to put it sown until the last 990 pages. Happy reading. Now out to do some yard work. Can't sit and read all day. I will send more later.

Hello, all! I read about 5 books a week and am a frequent visitor to the Book Barn in Red Bluff. A great used book store. Amazon and Barnes and Noble are my favorite sources and all my friends and children know that a gift certificate for books is always a great gift. I like a wide array of books...Wallace Stegner is my favorite author and I also like Alexander McCall Smith. This sounds like fun.

How odd. I just got a note which said you wanted to be my friend. Here is says you are my friend, I know you're my friend, and on my shelf you are my friend. Were you thinking really hard of me?
Look at my review of The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco, and see if you think you would like to read it. It delves into sinful behavior a bit, but not so much I felt I had to put it down, I just skimmed. If you are interested, I'll bring it to you.

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn

Yeah! You're back! Click on the link on your Christian Fiction group, when you are on the group page, click on the discussion link which says "Group Read" or some such thing, I've forgotten what I named it!

If you want to see some other interesting groups, go to my homepage by clicking on my name and check out the groups I am in. Some would be more interesting to you than others. :)

Nope, no profile there. It looks as if they've changed the page format overnight, wonder if you tried again? Did you push the edit button first? If none of this helps, the powers-that-be are very friendly, click on the feedback at the bottom of the page and send them your question. They answer in a day or two. I get the idea they are overwhelmed right now adjusting to the big increase in use and trying to fine tune everything, so pass a little blessing to them too.

Welcome! Good start on your shelf. I didn't know we had the same Boston School of Cooking Cookbook. Whenever I want comfort food, that's where I look. Chicken Fricasse and dumplings...mmmm.
